Textile - Rechabite Ceremonial Sashes
The Rechabite movement began in Salford England. In 1861 the first Independent order of Rechabites Friendly Society, Salford Unity, was opened in Bendigo to be called “Star of Bendigo” Tent. It was registered as Number 5 making it one of the first in Victoria. They worked with the Total Abstinence Society to organize lectures and social events designed to prove that entertainment and fun could be had without alcohol. They met in the new Temperance Hall in View Street. Independent Order of Rechabites, Salford Unity. Male ceremonial sashes. 8 silk ceremonial collars for the Independent Order of Rechabites, cream silk with red stripes. The number of stripes vary according to rank. Uniform - MMTB Uniform Hat - No. 2975, 1970s
All tramway platform crew were issued with a cap and were expected to wear it at all times. The number being the principal identification number for the public and Inspectors.Demonstrates uniform cap manufacture.Drivers/Conductors cap - navy blue cloth exterior, black cotton interior lining, with a plastic band at the front half of the cap terminating in two small MMTB metal buttons on either side, and black (green underside) plastic beak. Fitted with a MMTB badge and number 2975 - both nickel plated. Has two safety pins on the inside holding the number into position. Size 7 and 1/8. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.Printed booklet of 8 pages with soft cardboard slate blue cover fading to brown at edges. Handwritten notes by Albert Richardson, with typed copy, from the Golden Pyke Mine Manager, J. Trevean's Report 8 Nov 1906. Notes mention work carried out at the 1364 ft. level and someone visiting the level in the quiet hours of Sunday week. They fired two holes but only found a little gold, then went a little further south, but it wasn't thought they got very much. "Folkart has been central to the Warrandyte streetscape since 1975 when it took over from Les Gilholm’s milk bar (see photo below). John and Betty Hipwell were amongst the first to start importing Asian clothing, jewellery and homewares.
