Historical information

Folkart was operated by Pamnela Hipwell and was permanently closed Januray 2020.
"Folkart has been central to the Warrandyte streetscape since 1975 when it took over from Les Gilholm’s milk bar (see photo below). John and Betty Hipwell were amongst the first to start importing Asian clothing, jewellery and homewares. It derived from the era of hippies, meditation, flower power and freedom and introduced a whole new look, floaty dresses and skirts with embroidery and sequin decoration, exotic fabrics and colours and exciting possibilities." - Warrandyte Historical Society (Facebook Jan 8, 2020).
