Has an ESCo cross bench tram on the right hand side of the photograph and possibly on the left hand side. Behind the group are ESCo trams 8 and 11. Demonstrates arrangements made by the TMSV to record the closure of the SEC Ballarat system in 1971 and has a strong association with some of the donor's activities at the time.Last Tram Mail Cachet - Ballarat 1971. 2942.1 - Envelope - preprinted in dark green ink - titled "Last Trammail Cover" - with a purple stamp in top left hand corner - "Carried by Tram between Sebastopol and Ballarat / Sponsored by the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria Ltd.", in top right hand corner - 6c Australia stamp, featuring Sturt's Desert Rose and a Post Office Cancellation stamp "Ballarat 18 Sep. 71". Envelope made by Tudor Presseal. 2942.2 - Preprinted card - green ink titled "Last Trammail Cover", headed by TMSV's name, address and details of the TMSV, with the names of the Organisers John Fitzsimons and Bob Prentice along the lower edge. Purchased through eBay - envelope and eBay emails within worksheet. 2942.3 - as for 2942.1, addressed to Mr. N. Gower / Flat 5 - 12 Errard St / Ballarat 3350. 2942.4 - as for 2942.2 - no damage to card and with words "Neville / Best Wishes / Bob Prentice" on rear in red ink. 2942.3 and .4 added 21/03/2006. Photocopy of a letter dated August 5, 1908, typed on ESCo letterhead to Mr. J. Lazarus Esq advising that he capably acted as Surveyor and Superintending Engineer for the construction of various sections of tramway track in Ballarat and thanking home for his work. Signed by E. James Beauchamp, Assistant Engineer and Manager. Accompanying the photocopy is a photocopy of a letter dated 17/3/1993 from Brian Robertson of 20 Main St Welshpool. Items from Mr. Lazarus had been left to him. Comments that Mr. Lazarus was a well known engineer in Ballarat prior to the first world war. 2944.1 - A4 size sheet of white paper, printed up as a BTPS (BTM) conductor's Revenue Journal for Adults fares as $1.50c, Children $0.80 and all day cards $3.00. Standard BTPS Revenue Journal format that was altered as necessary for the various fares. Known as form T2. Form titled for the "Ballarat Tramways" and has been used on Sunday 29/12/1991 by Andrew Mitchell. Gives the opening and closing numbers, total number issued, pay in values and total cash. Signed by A. Mitchell. 2944.2 - ditto, completed by Austin Brehaut on 15/1/1991, when fares were Adult $1, children 50c and All Day cards - $2.00. 2944.3 - ditto on green paper, completed by P. Mong 9/3/1997, when fares were $1.50 for Adults, 80c for Children and $3.00 for All Day cards. Specially printed for the 1997 Begonia Festival with addition of 50c and 30c check or ticket values. 2944.4 - A5 version dated 6/10/ 1996, completed by Clayton Giles. Four page foolscap stencil duplicated instruction sheet titled "Notes for Motormen re New Weekly Tickets.", pinned in the top left hand corner. Details the new style of ESCo weekly tickets to be used in Ballarat from Monday 7/2/1927, where two types of tickets were used - Morning and Evening Tickets and Lunch Hour Tickets. Gives instructions on their use, advantages, colours, fraud protection, schedule of timing when tickets issued against the various run numbers on page 3. Page four, titled "Instructions for Conductors re New Weekly Return Tickets and Weekly Tickets" gives instructions re the issuing of 4d return tickets, a new 3d return ticket and how the colours varied with each day. Notes when the tickets will be collected by the clerk for runs 13 and 14. See Reg. Printed black and white postcard of a Ballarat horse tram arriving at the Grenville St. terminus, at the bottom end of Sturt St terminus. Has buildings on both sides of Sturt St. in photograph, with some other horse drawn vehicles and a few pedestrians. In the photo are Suttons building, and business near Grenville St. of an Ironmonger and S. Laurens? On the front of the card is written a short message: - "Mother and self arrived safely in Ballarat. Train did not get in till ten o'clock. Love to all, thank for kindness. Jessie Frewin. On rear is places for correspondences stamp, address. On left hand edge is "H. J.
