Functional object - Camera lens
Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, recalls that "Robin experimented with stereoscopic photography which, when viewed through either polaroid or red/green glasses, produced a three dimensional effect. A special double lens attachment with image splitting mirror was added in front of the normal camera lens to produce a double image similar to the image seen by each left and right eye". Robin experimented with stereoscopic photography when they lived in the 158 Riversdale Road Camberwell.Stereoscopic camera lens in a box with instructions in Japanese and Englishwalsh st miscellaneous, robin boyd -

Functional object - Bookends
Boyd designed the exhibition for the opening of the Australian Chancery in Washington DC held in June 1969. He designed six cylindrical clear acrylic display cases. One of these exhibits used an anamorphic optical illusion, using compressed images which had normal proportions when viewed through a lens of the half-cylindrical display cases. These bookends were designed as a small scale model for the Chancery exhibition. Placing the disc (item F158) underneath the adjacent two half-cylindrical bookends demonstrates how the bookends behave as a lens. Two half cylindrical acrylic prismsaustralian chancery, walsh st furnishings, robin boyd, ohm2022, ohm2022_3 -

Newspaper - Clipping, Sun-Herald, 1500 Staff needed to run our opera house.... conductor's view' and 'Boycott Feared by Architects’, 15.5.1966
The first article describes the opinion of the British conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent to his visit to the Sydney Opera House. The second article, by Tony Pratt, discusses a possible boycott of Australian architects in competitions to be decided at the annual meeting of the International Union of Architects' International Contents Committee. Robin Boyd’s desk cupboard contained two exercise books (item D482.1-D482.2) and assorted articles, essays and other material regarding the building of the Sydney Opera House, inserted inside the front cover of Walkabout magazine, July 1966 (item P1377). This publication is one of those inserts. Many of these were collected by Boyd’s eldest daughter, Mandie, who recalls that her father was writing a book, but was very disillusioned with the way the entire Opera House saga unfolded.sydney opera house, utzon, sydney opera house project, walsh st library -

Villa Alba Museum
Decorative object - Curtain tie backs, 3 pairs, 1850-1900
... , tassels, trimmings, braid set / Jessie, Terry (and Chris St... / Jessie, Terry (and Chris St) to view, collect" Part of a group ...The Villa Alba Museum is cultural institution committed to the collection, study and display of 19th century interior decorative finishes, and the components of 19th and 20th century interior decoration. These include artefacts (wallpapers, textiles, carpet samples), furnishings, printed materials (catalogues, books, periodicals), and pictures (photographs).Part of a group of curtain furnishings which includes a curtain with original fittings, fringe and braid unpicked from other curtains, and these six curtain tie backs. The six curtain tie backs are identical, though one pair is shorter. The tie backs comprise a length of soft, loose (floss) silk cord, made of two thick strands twisted together (cable cord). An elaborate tassel is attached to the middle of each cord, to weight the tie back in an elegant loop, with the loose ends attached to hooks or pins on the window frame. Each tassel is formed of a turned wooden mould, covered with floss silk thread, and further decorated with knotted netting, applied braid, and glass beads. The end of the mould has a large flattened shape, from which hangs a ring of long, bullion metal fringe. This may be silver-gilt: untarnished parts are still true gold colour, while the majority of the fringing is tarnished black. These curtain decorations are truly luxurious; the original suite of curtains would have been very expensive, an eloquent item of conspicuous consumption of luxury goods.Attached handwritten note : "VA Th 7/6/2012 Ric Freeman (Nat Trust member) & Julie Freeman / re soft furnishings, tassels, trimmings, braid set / Jessie, Terry (and Chris St) to view, collect"decorative arts & design, interior decoration - history, curtain accessories, tassels -

The photograph of St Mary's Anglican Church at Bulla was taken before the completion of the airport at Tullamarine. Originally the church occupied a site on Oaklands Road near the Old Bulla Road. It was shifted to its present site in Bulla next to the old council chambers when the airport was built because the old site was near an important runway.A black and white photograph of a partial view of a bluestone church showing a rear and side view. St. Mary's Anglican Church at Bulla was originally built on the outskirts of Bulla township in 1858. In the early 1970s it was moved to its present site to make way for the flight path at the newly constructed Tullamarine Airport. The former site was on the corner of Oaklands and Sunbury Roads and is covered with vegetation. The church was designed by Thomas Taylor.A profile view of the west side of St. Mary's Anglican Church at Bulla and the garden area around the church. A slate covered gable roof has been constructed over the porch nave and chancery with a cross at each end of the roof over the nave. 6 bluestone buttresses and 3 lance windows are along the side with 3 small lancet windows and a blue painted wooden lancet door on the porch.churches, religion, taylor, thomas, st. mary's anglican church, george evans collection -
