The Ball Court Hotel was built in the late 1870's by John Cahill. It remained with the Cahill family until World War 2. The Lupson family were the hoteliers for 20 years after WW2 and in 1973 the McPhersons rebuilt the interior and added air conditioning to the building. The Ball Court Hotel is the only surviving hotel from Sunbury's early settlement.A coloured photograph of the side view along Macedon Street of the Ball Court Hotel showing the public bar in the original building, the Take-away area and the bistro. The former bluestone Bulla Shire Hall building was constructed in 1867 and remained the centre of local government until the early 20th century when the administration was moved to Sunbury. In the 1990's the Alister Clark Rose Garden was established in the surrounding grounds. The garden is open to the public all the year round. In 1999 the rose garden was officially opened.A coloured photograph of the front elevation of the original Shire of Bulla offices. The Rupertswood Hotel used to occupy the intersection of Evans and Brook Streets on the SE corner. It was demolished in the 1970s to make way for a modern retail complex. A photo of the Ruperstwood Hotel, on the corner of Evans Street and Brook Street, with a group of people and a horse and carriage outside it. The group is comprised of 5 men, 1 youth, 5 girls and a woman in the carriage. There is a sign on the fence stating " Horses and buggies always for hire. This brass registration plate was once attached to the former Sunshine District Community Hospital in King Edward Avenue, Albion, 3020. The hospital, under several names, served the local community since the 1920's. It became the Sunshine District Community Hospital in 1946 and was closed in 1989. The building was demolished and replaced by residential units. The plate was preserved by Carol Duvall a long serving nurse, who about 20 years later donated it to the Sunshine and District Historical Society.This brass plate is a rare physical relic of what was once the main hospital serving the Sunshine area, and in which many local babies were born.Tarnished brass plate with indented or carved lettering finished in black paint. The black paint is showing signs of deterioration. The plate has six holes for attaching it to a wall, and two of the corners have been bent probably during the removal of the plate. Sunshine High School had the system of Prefects being elected by the students from candidates nominated by the teachers. It is unknown whether the exact number of votes each elected Prefect received was ever released to the students. Prefects were used to supervise the behaviour of other students, and to book them for offences such as not wearing caps on the way to and from school. In the Pledge book there are empty pages after 1971 so it is unknown whether the signing of the Prefects Pledge was abandoned after then. Sunshine High School existed in its own right in the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine for a relatively short period between 1955 to 1991. The school amalgamated with the following five secondary schools: Sunshine Technical School, Tottenham Technical School, North Sunshine Technical School, Sunshine West High School, and Ardeer High School to form the multi campus Sunshine College in 1992. The buildings of the former Sunshine High School on Ballarat Road now form part of the Sunshine Campus of Victoria University. The book is a historical record of the names and signatures of the Prefects that signed the Prefects Pledge, and served the Sunshine High School over the 14 years between 1958 to 1971 inclusive. It also contains the names and signatures of witnesses to the signatures. Small brown hardcover book with cream pages. The Peterborough Hotel was a popular accommodation with tourists. The Bar is known to have been a separate building to the rear of the accommodation and was popular with locals as well as tourists. The Hotel and bar were very popular with locals and tourists. Metal sign (one of two- the other is missing) that previously hung on one side of the main entrance door at Dalgety Wool Store on Gheringhap St (now Deakin University waterfront campus). Sign was polished daily by Percy Johnson, a janitor at the building in the 1960's. Donor worked at the building as a clerk between 1958 - 1982. Sign was found by a metal collector by the side of the road c.2018. Metal sign with pressed text. Possibly brass. May have originally been gold colour but now a dull brown. Coloured photos of the historic Literary Institute during renovation. The building was a private residence for many years (for Mrs. Feilding) and later as the Tourist Office for a short period. Then as a cafe, restaurant for a short period, then in 2012 privately owned.3 Coloured photographs of restoration work of the historical Literary Institute.
