Eric Roger Webb moved to Mitcham with his family in about 1932. They lived at 443 Mitcham Road and owned all the land up to Simpson Street. The land was a grass paddock and he planted native trees and shrubs around the perimeter. The Webbs has three children: Eric, Dean and Donald. Mr Webb worked in the public service. He was a councillor of the Shire of Blackburn and Mitcham and later of the city of Nunawading between 1940 and 1949. The barn is situated near Råbelöv castle, and near the small medieval church adjacent to the property, that is a popular baptismal and wedding church. Råbelöv Castle is a castle in Kristianstad Municipality, Scania, in southern Sweden. The castle was built in 1637. In this year, Christopher Ulfeld Råbelöf's current main building, his and his wife's initials were still on the north end. He died in 1657 and was succeeded at Råbelöf first by his son Björn, then by his nephew Otto. Both died young, whereby Christopher's son Ebbe, married to Hedewig, daughter of Christian IV and his second wife, Kirsten Munck, took office in 1663. In 1676 - 1678 Kristianstad was held by the Danes, but was besieged by Charles XI. The siege staff were located at Råbelöf, both on the enclosed yard and on a moat surrounded by a islet just west of the farm. During this time, Råbelöf was held by Ebbe's daughter Anna Catharina, married to Carl Gustaf Skytte. The latter settled for a time in 1712 on the fortified island within the moat to protect himself from the then ravaging plague. From the Skåne trip in 1749, Linnaeus describes homes and a lovely garden with mulberry and walnut trees, grapes, lavender and white lilies in abundance. The owner was then Anna Catharina Ridderschantz, married to Ludvig Gustaf von Böhnen. She made 1763 Råbelöf and Odersberga fidei committee for the benefit of her three daughters. The Fidei Commission letter is difficult to interpret when it comes to the time after the three daughters, something that several times caused bitter heritage disputes. In 1782 the entire farm burned, the main building was badly damaged and the family moved to Råbelöf belonging to Odersberga, which then had completely new buildings, those that are still there today. Only in 1833 then did the fidei commissioner Fredrik von Rosen return to Råbelöf. The main building had then been cut down and fitted with a new south gable. According to fidei commission rules, Råbelöf returned to the von Böhnen family in 1864. Accession did not become presumed Celestine von Böhnen but instead her older brother Axel. Celestine was married to John William Kennedy. The fide commission went to her and John Williams son James Kennedy. The family could then look back on a number of tortuous legal proceedings between John William and his wife Celestine on the one hand and Axel and his wife Elsa Maria on the other. James was a chamberlain, sitting in the first chamber where he fought socialism. This led to the large agricultural workers' strike in 1907 that was concentrated on Kennedy's three farms Råbelöf, Odersberga and Hammarsjö. In 1906, his eldest son Douglas, the future fidei commissioner, took his life. Four years later another son took his life. James and his wife took the disasters hard, they fell ill. The young son Gilbert got in 1908, only 22 years old, took over responsibility for the farm. James son Gilbert Kennedy took over as Fidei Commissioner in 1916 and they became known as outstanding farmers with, among other things, grazing for dairy cows and fruit growing as specialties. He passed away in 1946 and was succeeded by his son Douglas, who gave continuity to Råbelöf's position with among other things, a new barn with loose running and slatted floors in 1965. Douglas Kennedy held the farm 61 years before he passed away in 2007. He became the last fidei commissioner, the property became a fideicommissie corporation inherited by his sister-in-law John Murray, who in turn in 2010 left it his children Caroline Murray Karlsson and Johan Murray. The Boardman family were local business people in Sunbury, who were storekeepers and also produced the local newspaper. Their original building was in Brook Street near the railway station but they later located their business further down in Brook Street on the corner of O'Shanassy Street. This is an image of the original single storey Royal Hotel building which was on the corner of Brook and Evans Streets. In the 1930s the single storey structure was demolished after a fire and replaced with a double storey Art Deco red brick building, which still stands on the same site.At one stage there were four hotels in Evans Street between Station Street and Brook Street. At some stage the Millett family owned them. This artwork was painted by Charlotte Rippert who was interned in Camp 3 with her whole family. The painting was painted in camp. Charlotte Rippert was a German Lutheran Missionary in Egypt, arrested as a security risk in Cairo, 1941. The building with the white picket fence is the Beulah Tea Gardens opened by Eliza Hand c1904 at The Gap (now FiveWays). The building is still operating as a cafe. The Tourist Road does not yet exist. Old Coach Road comes into the picture from the right and the horse and cart is heading up Ridge Road. The elm trees can be seen on the left. The building up on the hill is the Mountjoy Guest House. ‘Mountjoy’ was built by the Paynter family in 1905. It had fourteen bedrooms, a dining room and sitting room, kitchen with a big wood burning range and verandahs on three sides. There were commanding views of the eastern ranges and the city to the west. Ellis Jeeves purchased ‘Mountjoy’ in 1908 and it soon became a popular tourist destination, the coach yards making it a centre of the district. ‘Mountjoy’ is a central feature of many photographs of Kalorama in the 1900s. Large barn built c1886 by Isaac Jeeves the younger on his property where the homestead 'Shiloah' stood. The barn was reputedly made from timbers split from only one messmate tree. Originally the home of Isaac Jeeves, brother of Ellis Jeeves, ‘Shiloah’ was enlarged to take guests in the early 1900s. It was situated close to a beautiful fern gully and Isaac and his family capitalised on this by setting out walking tracks through the ferns. They charged 1/- to walk through and this included afternoon tea in a garden setting. ‘Shiloah’ was a popular tourist attraction but the making of the Olinda Creek Road destroyed the fern gullies and, by the 1930s, it was all finished. The Wenborn family acquired Ferguson's Lot 19 of the Village Settlement where the original Mount Dandenong School was opened in a shed. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the area working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas. It was in the clearing on the left that John William (Willie) Richardson built a home for his wife Jeanie Green. It was called Mount Calvin. Jeanie was often ill and the family left the area seeking a warmer climate. They eventually settled in Brisbane. Willie sold the home and 60 acres around it to W. Rowse. Jeanie died in 1916.
