Carole WILSON (1960- ) Born Canberra, Australia Carole Wilson undertook undergraduate studies at the Canberra School of Arts and Phillip Institute of Technology. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Ballarat in 1987, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2000. She has chosen central motifs in her work, which she incorporates throughout a series. The urn has been a unifying motif in Wilson's map work and testifies to the way in which function drives form across cultures. Carole's work is held in many public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the Powerhouse Museum, State Library of Victoria and a number of regional Victorian galleries. Her posters are in museum collections in Finland, Moscow and Poland. In 2001 Dr Wilson was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Visual Art) from the University of Ballarat (Now Federation University). She graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Education from University of Ballarat in 1987, and a Diploma of Art from the Phillip Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 1984. Type used by RAAF Radar station Wilsons Prom (RS 14) for backup communications 1942 - 1946. This is an AR8 radio receiver with a brown face and various dials and switches; They functioned as a set and were manufactured in 1938 at the Ashfield, Sydney workshop of AWA (Amalgamated Wireless Australasia Ltd, later AWA Ltd), Australia’s largest electronics manufacturer and broadcaster. They are rare outside Australia as they were seldom exported to other air forces, and remained in service until the late 1950s.202 An AT5 transmitter and AT5 coupling unit are held in Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.203 The three units in the Wilsons Promontory Museum were deployed by the RAAF in WWII and represent the types of communications equipment used at the 14 Radar Station, Wilsons Promontory. It is not known, however if these particular examples were used at the lightstation and are part of the same set. They have interpretive relevance to the collection, but their significance to the lightstation is dependent on whether they have a direct historical association with the radar station that operated there. Maldon Pottery was established in 1973 by Neville Wilson (1946-1996), Tom Metcalf (1948- ) and Graham Masters (1950- ) on Barringhup Road, Maldon, Victoria. Tom Metcalf and Graham Masters Masters graduated from Bendigo College of Advanced Education all Bendigo graduates. Wilson ) He was a skilled drawer and did all the brushwork. Metcalf (1948- ) graduated in 1968, did two years' work experience at Non-porite in Melbourne, then worked as a thrower and decorator at Bendigo Pottery from 1971-73. He is T.M. on Epsom ware. Masters (1950- ) graduated in 1973 and established the Enterprise Pottery at Myers Flat with Morris Hesse in 1974, so must have joined the partnership later than the others. He left in 1984 to set up his own Sweenies Creek Pottery. Metcalf left in the late 1980s, leaving Wilson to operate the pottery by himself until his death in 1996. As well as using the Maldon Pottery stamp, Wilson signed some of his work with his name or an impressed 'N'.
