Jane Badger is a long-time resident of Surrey Hills with a keen interest in the environment and recycling. Also a talented violinist; teacher and member of the Surrey Hills Orchestra. For many years she had a herb and small plant stall in her front garden and a stall at the neighbourhood market. Locals recycled their plant pots through her 'depot' in a corner of her front garden.A vertical file of clippings and information containing the following items relating to Jane Badger, an active member of the Surrey Hills neighbourhood. John and Tom were both involved in the fruit and vegetable business; John owned a business for 18 years at the Victoria market (Central Fruit Agency); whilst Tom ran a fruit shop in Nicholson Street Carlton for more than 30 years. Over a period of time Tom gave a regular morning market report on the John Eden show on radio 3DB. Thought to have originated in Austria in 1869, postcards first gained popularity in Australia in the 1890s.They were used to send short messages to friends and family. This collection was generated by Mary Emma Elliot of Talgarno. Talgarno is a rural locality in Victoria, Australia, situated on the southern shoreline of Lake Hume, about 23 km east of Albury-Wodonga. The collection contains postcards from across the world. Mary Emma Sibley was born in Ironbark, Bendigo in 1859. She married James Elliot in 1893 and they settled at “Kelso”, Talgarno. They had two children – Mona and Sibley. Mary Emma Elliot died in Melbourne in 1944, aged 84 years. Photographed are Dionysios (Denis) S. Lekatsas (Lucas) and his wife Ekaterini (nee Paxinos). Dionysios owned D.S. Lucas Wholesale at the Victoria Market. In 1938 Dionysios and Ekaterini opened the Lucas Cafe in Elizabeth Street which was open 24/7 and, like many of the city cafes during the war years, was a booming business.A black and white photograph of a smartly dressed man and woman standing in front of a vintage car. Another car is barely visible in the background. The photograph was taken in a large garden. A large cypress tree is on the LHS of the picture and other trees are in the background. It is a Kodak print with the number 31 stamped on the back in blue. A type label with the words 'MR & MRS KATERINI LEKATSA 1936' on it has been stuck across the bottom of the photograph.katerini
