Historical information

Archimedes drills, incorporate a bobbin sliding up and down a spiral shaft to bore a hole. Spiral-bit augers were precursors to modern drills, whose bits cleared the hole of chips as the user drilled.
Some of the most beautiful Archimedean drills appear in English tool auctions replete with brass, rosewood and even ivory.
