Stratherne Presbyterian Girls' School was founded in 1889 at the home of Miss Ethel Dare at 45 Riversdale road, Hawthorn. The final location of the school was 131 Power street, Hawthorn - a house gifted to the school by Mr and Mrs John Patterson in 1923. Patricia Boyd was on the Board of the Australia Opera for several years. The Walsh St house holds a significant collection of opera recordings. Penleigh Boyd wrote this in The Age obituary to Dorothea Patricia Davies AM (3 Jan 1921-5 Nov 2009). "In 1988, Patricia was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for her service to opera involving many years of voluntary work on the board of the Australian Opera - work which she greatly enjoyed involving travel, music and meeting many interesting and entertaining people. She was also a life member and former president of the National Gallery of Victoria Women's Association."
