This piece of fabric in the design of the Republic of Vietnam’s flag was cut from a roll carried by Military Assistance Command Vietnam operatives when they went around the villages, compounds and outposts. As part of the ‘Hearts and Minds’ program, they would cut off sections and hand them out to anyone who wanted a bit. Some pieces became flags, some head scarves, some were even used to wrap babies. One cord has a metal tube, the other end has a loop. 35cm from the loop end is another loop (it still retains a bit of oily cleaning cloth when last used.) One of the three cords has snapped. 2. These were much sought after items by Australian soldiers obtained by swapping, purchasing etc.This is a nylon type lightweight blanket for a soldier in jungle warfare. It is camouflaged with curved patterns of black, brown and two ton green. The outer material is of a "Ripstop" material. It is hemmed with with an olive nylon material.
