A Beryl Billing and Elaine Ward at Legacy House sorting stamps in 1996. Beryl Billing (seated) was the co-ordinator of the stamp sorting for many years and Elaine Ward was President of the Melbourne Legacy Widows Club in 1996. Beryl would put reports in The Answer showing how much had been raised. With a group of photos about stamp sorting with post-it note "Stamp Ladies Past to 2004". The widows have sorted used stamps and sold to a stamp dealer for many years to the present day. The Answer is a newsletter in magazine format that is sent to the widows that are helped by Melbourne Legacy. For the widows who are sight impaired a copy of the newsletter is audio described onto CD by Vision Australia and posted to them. It contains information about meetings and activities. This edition contained articles on the Changi violin, Ohi Day Commemoration and a look back at Government House Christmas parties for the young junior legatees in the 1940s and 50s. Lockdowns were still affecting many of our programs such as the walking group, the stamp ladies, and widows club gatherings. Archibald Crofts (1875-1942) was born in India and came to Australia in the mid 1890's. He married Mary Keene i 1899 and in 1905 opened his first grocery store in Sth Melbourne. Eventually there were 137 Crofts stores including one in Bendigo. In many cases these were the first self-serve grocery stores. Crofts was also heavily involved in the South Melbourne Football Club and was its president 1933-37. Prior to that its location at the junction of the Diamond Creek and the Yarra River made it an important meeting place for the Wurundjeri people. The park combines formal elements and sporting facilities with remnant bushland that is of environmental significance. It is home to sporting and horse riding clubs, popular play spaces and the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway, which attracts large numbers of visitors. The park will be the venue for our July excursion which will comprise a walk of about 3.5 km around the park and adjacent areas. Along the way we will discuss the history and natural history of the area. The path along the creek and the river provides a pleasant and scenic walk. This walk on Saturday 1st July is about 3.5 km in length and will take 2 to 2.5 hours. It will start at 2pm at the Main Road car park at the front of the park. (Melway ref 21 H 10). Legacy celebrated its Centenary in 2023 by conducting a Torch Relay from Pozieres in France, to London, and around Australia, ending in Melbourne. This booklet belonged to Legatee David Kelly who donated it to the archive. Legatee Kelly is a Past President of Melbourne Legacy 2000, Past Chairman of Legacy Coordinating Council 2009/10. Legatee Kelly was the ML representative on the Board of Legacy Australia Inc in October 2019 when the initial decision was made to investigate the possibility of conducting a relay to commemorate Legacy’s centenary. Legatee Kelly together with the Hobart Legacy representative were Co-Chairman of the Centenary of Legacy Committee reporting to Legacy Australia Inc. On 12th October 2023 Legatee Kelly together with his wife Legatee Helen Kelly participated in the Torch Relay in the Melbourne Legacy leg of the relay. On Friday 13th October the Torch Relay was scheduled to conclude at the Shrine of Remembrance with the flame to be returned to the eternal flame at the Shrine. Legatee Kelly was selected to be the last Legacy torchbearer, representing Melbourne as the founding club. He lead representatives from Legacy Clubs attending The 2023 National Conference up the Forecourt where the flame passed to the wife of the Governor General, Mrs Linda Hurley. Written on backing sheet, "West Croydon School (In Ringwood municipality)". November 1969. The area behind the pine trees was used as a training ground by the Wilhelmina Soccer Club, later called Ringwood City SC and Ringwood FC. It was later sub-divided and the two streets named Wilhelmina and Juliana Courts, in honor of Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands, and her daughter, Juliana, later succeeding her as Queen. The Burnt Bridge Shopping Centre can be seen in the far west on one of the images.

The Le Get’s came to Heathmont when pioneer orchardists were beginning to sell their properties, which led to the sub-division of land into housing blocks. It was the time of a new community coming together, with sporting clubs starting up, churches and schools built, roads being defined or asphalted, and the proliferation of new shops and businesses.

Foreword Intro: Life story of Australian croquet champion Elsie Isabel Baner (1900-1983) who, in her early thirties in late 1933, began to play crouet on a newly-formed lawn adjoining the Ringwood Bowling Club. Within three years, she won the hightly prestigious English Silver Medal (B Class Division) and was immediately upgraded to A Grade. Elsie remained a champion player for the next three decades and was acknowledged by her colleagues as "a legend in her own lifetime. Author, Dr Sue Summers, is the maternal granddaughter of Elsie Isabel Baner and Frederick Thomas Baner. Awarded to the Croquet Australia Hall of Fame on 1st December 2023, for demonstrated leadership and influence in croquet in Australia as a player, coach and mentor.
