Glass ornamental tower designed on The Pearl Tower in Shanghai, China. Presented to the SGSC from businessman Mr. Poo, Jinshan Community in China. The tower features a tall spire with two large faceted balls and three smaller balls fixed to a glass base. Chinese writing around the edge of base. Under the base is round mirror which creates a multicoloured effect through the base of the tower.

In 1842, an association of New South Wales pastoralists was formed to recruit Chinese coolies, and bring them to the colony as cheap indentured labourers for the squatters' runs. Not many Chinese were brought out under this scheme; in the Port Phillip District in 1849 there were only 217 Asiatics - most of them Chinese. Markings: 13 994.GOL. J & G Meakin was an English pottery manufacturing company founded in 1851 and based in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. In the 19th century, J & G Meakin was known for the vast quantities of cheap ironstone china it produced for the domestic English market and export to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. From around 1970, designs included Liberty, Sterling, Trend, Classic, and Heirloom. Some of these were influenced by earlier designs. The newer wares can be distinguished by back stamp markings such as 'permanent colours', 'everlasting colour', or 'dishwasher proof'. J & G Meakin had close family and corporate affiliations to the potteries Johnson Brothers, and Alfred Meakin Ltd, which explains why many patterns are similar, if not almost the same. There was a takeover by J. & G. Meakin in 1968 of Midwinter Pottery. The firm was then taken over by the Wedgwood Group in 1970. In 2000 production under the Meakin name ceased and their long-established works, Eagle Pottery, was then used for the production of Johnson Bros pottery. Eagle Pottery closed in 2004 when production was transferred abroad; the works were demolished in 2005.Item is significant as it is believed to be an early example of the SOL trademark made between 1913-1925.Ironstone wash jug and bowl set, white, often referred to as a ewer and bowl. By 1881, all the Australian colonies except Tasmania (where few Chinese had ever gone) and Western Australia had re-introduced fairly uniform laws restricting Chinese immigration. In 1866, Western Australia fell into line. The only part of Australia where the Chinese continued to come in any numbers was the Northern Territory (then under South Australian control) . . . Slide: The practical failure of the Act of 1856, and the fresh outburst of anti-Chinese feeling in the Buckland riots of 1857, led to Victorian Government to take further action in the latter year. (1) A residence fee was imposed on all Chinese in the colony (one pound per month - ultimately reduced, after Chinese protests, to four pound per year). (2) The co-operation of South Australia was sought, and , in 1857, the government of that colony passed a restriction act similar to the Victorian Act of 1855. Markings: 21. This bed pan was used in the past for patients in hospitals and other places where there were bedridden people. Bed pans are still used in these circumstances but they are now made of materials that are more easily sterilized. This item has no known local provenance but it is an interesting example of hospital equipment used in the past and will be useful for display. This is a spherical-shaped white china bowl with a pointed end and with the opening partly covered at the smaller end. It has a china handle at the top section. There are three drainage holes at the bottom of the smaller end. Inside the bowl at the top section there is black printing. The New Slipper Bed Pan This slipper should be passed under the Patient in front between the legs. Fawn-coloured setting was donated to the school by Mr Robert Murray in 2005. The setting was hand painted by Lucy Shaw, (principal of Clarendon PLC 1927-1934) in 1934. The sets were sold to raise money for the school. This milk bottle takes its name from the Tooram property near Allansford but the exact decade when this milk bottle was used has not been established. Tooram was established by John Allan when he came to the Allansford area in 1839/1840 with his brother William who established the property of Allandale in the same area. John Allan held the property of Tooram until the early 1860s, with several owners from that date on including John Orlebar, Thomas Palmer and the Owen family. The property was sub-divided in 1897 with the Uebergang family owning Tooram Park from 1912 to 1992. The Torram property was well-known in the late 19th and early 20th century for its cheese production.This bottle is of great interest as one connected with Tooram, a dairying property that was one of the earliest farm properties in the Warrnambool area, being established in the Allansford area in 1839/1840, before the town of Warrnambool was settled. This is a glass bottle with a moulded base and a metal and china stopper.
