This rather poor copy was scanned from what appears to be the minister's original typed copy. Mrs Ailsa Attenborough had kept it and was at this final service as organist, 12th July 1970. The minister for the day was the Methodist minister Rev. Norman Higgitt? who lived in 'The Parsonage' 38 Nyora Road Poowong with his wife Lettie. This document along with all the Loch Poowong Uniting church parish achives are about to be sorted and sent to the Uniting Church archives in Melbourne where they will be housed appropriately and can be accessed by the public. -

The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. Three typed pages of speech notes. Undated but information suggests 1965. Corrections made in blue and red ink. Mentions that the Easter Fair has recently ended. Topics discussed : the Cancer Campaign success and recent advances in treatment and facilities, a discussion with a Mr Larritt, the grandson of Bendigo's first surveyor, and the work his grandfather performed, especially regarding the reservations chosen for the Hospital and the Home and Hospital for the Aged, the Art Gallery's Dobell exhibition, Commonwealth Youth Sunday on May 2nd, the promotion of Bendigo by the Victorian Promotion Committee, and Anzac Day business. Oliver states that 'in 1914 the citizens of Bendigo presented the 7th Bn AIF with a set of bugles. One of the bugles used by 'Pompey' Simpson in the landing of Gallipoli and in France until he was wounded in 1917, when it was used by Wally Granland until the Armistice. On Anzac Eve at the 9PM ritual to the Fallen, the bugle will be used for the first time since the first war ..by Bugler John Murphy of Southern Command.' Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. The collections include manuscripts, pictures, trophies, plans, honour boards etc. The combined collections of the four sporting clubs making up the collection number hundreds of items that are historically significant locally. They are also significant to the sporting history of the greater Melbourne area and to the sports of lawn bowls and tennis in Australia in the 19th and 20th centuries. 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection

Part of a collection of objects relating to the service of Lieutenant Russell Jones, 13th Battalion. The collection gives an interesting insight into the social life of a young officer during and immediately following the end of the war. Regimental No 3350 later Lieutenant Russel Norman Jones was a 20 year old linotype operator when he enlisted in the 13th Battalion AIF 6 August 1915. He had 4 years cadet service and two years CMF prior to enlistment. He was wounded in action on two occasions and returned to Australia in September 1919 on SS Suevic. Example of community support for men serving overseas in World War 1 (1914-1918). Letter from Neutral Bay Parents' & Citizens' Association dated October 1917 to 3350 Corporal R N Jones D Company 13th Battalion AIF advising him that a parcel has been forwarded to London to be delivered to him for Xmas. The parcel was one of 100 sent by the Association following a successful fund raising "Entertainment & Gift Evening". Badorf Shoe Company, Inc. was started in Lititz, PA, by brothers Norman and Paul Badorf. The company was owned and operated by the Badorf family for nearly 40 years until its purchase by Ura Gingerich in 1967. Forty six years later, the family tradition has continued and the company is now operated by Ura’s son Duane Gingerich and grandsons, Justin and Brandon Gingerich. It was collected to be a record of a photo of past presidents. During World War 2 Dick served as a pilot with the RAAF and the RAF in North Africa, Italy and Yugoslavia. He joined Melbourne Legacy in 1976. The newspaper cuttings of his death notice from September 1989. The article was part of an album of past presidents from 1965 to 1989. The folder included biographical details and obituaries, eulogies and death notices of prominent Legatees. When the Bendigo RSL Office moved from Pall Mall (SMI) in 2007 to the Bendigo District RSL in Havilah Road the records were then digitized and put in these box trays.. Rows of graves from the Battle of Fromelles, then called Flerbaix. Among the graves is that of Captain Norman Gibbins, 55th Battalion, born in Ararat Victoria. A Gallipoli veteran, at Fromelles, Gibbins fought a desperate rear guard bombing action while under heavy German attack. It allowed many Australians including the wounded to get back to the safety of their own lines. When his path was blocked by dead and wounded Gibbins stood up and was fatally shot.
