The colour of some slides has degraded. 99 Princes sStreet (1 Fellows Street) was built by the architects Oakden, Addison and Kemp. The Kew Conservation Study (1988) noted that: Erected By Bennie And Olivers, these Two Attached Houses Attracted An Initial Construction N.A.V. of £260. The houses were originally owned and occupied by the architect Henry Kemp, however Kemp appears not to have lived there long because, while he retained ownership for at least a decade, by 1891 George Martin, merchant and bank manager, was recorded as the tenant of No.1 Fellows Street. At that date the N.A.V. for this individual building was £83 and Kemp remained the owner of both properties until at least 1910. Kemp had arrived in Australia in 1886 and this was therefore one of the first of the many buildings he was to design in Melbourne. While late Victorian in date, the houses are of a unified design that is an interesting precursor of the Edwardian architecture produced by Kemp. Somewhat awkwardly composed with steep gables, a rectangular castellated tower and slated single storeyed verandahs projecting from the overall boxlike form, the house contains features common to the 1880s such as the use of polychromy in the brickwork and slates cladding the roof. The building departs from the norm of the time with the use of terracotta tile ridge cappings, and strapwork to the corbelled chimneys.The slides represent a snapshot in time of built architecture in Kew, much of which has changed in the forty-plus period since they were created.Colour positive transparency (slide) of the pair of residences on the corner of Princess Street and Fellows Street in Kew. Ramornie was built for the Scottish solicitor, James Maitland Campbell. He employed his brother William M. Campbell as architect, and N. W. Frogley of Prahran as builder. Campbell was Mayor of Kew on three occasions. The house was built during his first tenure of the mayoral office. After a succession of tenants and owners in the 20th century, Ramornie became known as ‘The Towers’, and was converted into a boarding house. Boroondara Cemetery, established in 1858, is within an unusual triangular reserve bounded by High Street, Park Hill Road and Victoria Park, Kew. The caretaker's lodge and administrative office (1860 designed by Charles Vickers, additions, 1866-1899 by Albert Purchas) form a picturesque two-storey brick structure with a slate roof and clock tower. A rotunda or shelter (1890, Albert Purchas) is located in the centre of the cemetery: this has an octagonal hipped roof with fish scale slates and a decorative brick base with a tessellated floor and timber seating. The cemetery is surrounded by a 2.7 metre high ornamental red brick wall (1895-96, Albert Purchas) with some sections of vertical iron palisades between brick pillars. Albert Purchas was a prominent Melbourne architect who was the Secretary of the Melbourne General Cemetery from 1852 to 1907 and Chairman of the Boroondara Cemetery Board of Trustees from 1867 to 1909. He made a significant contribution to the design of the Boroondara Cemetery. Villa Alba, a two-storeyed residence with rendered masonry walls and a slate roof, stands opposite Studley Park, overlooking the Yarra River. It is believed to have been first built before 1863, but substantially remodelled and enlarged in about 1882-83 for William Greenlaw, the Manager of the Colonial Bank of Australasia. Although the house and its tower must always have been a landmark in the area and the architecture is unusual, almost Norman in style, it is the interior which is the most remarkable feature of Villa Alba. The River Yarra was a popular subject for photographic postcards. The postcards provide an interesting perspective of plantings on the banks of the Yarra at various periods. The water tank stands on Sunbury Railway station and was in use when steam trains were used along Bendigo line. After travelling 37 kms (25 miles) from Melbourne, it was necessary for the trains to replenish their water supply at Sunbury. The stone bridge is one of the many bridges built along the Bendigo Rail Line. This one along with four others ar in Sunbury which were built in the late 1850s. his bridge spans the Ruoertswood Viaduct which is north of the Sunbury Station. The building in the LH corner was a pump house where water was pumped and taken to the water tower on Sunbury Station where the steam trains stopped to replenish the water tanks. The Bendigo Rail Line was the first Government owned and operated to be constructed in Victoria. Along the railway a number of famous bridges and tunnels were built and are of historical significance. The bridge spanning the Rupertswood Viaduct is one of them. The post card features a view of the two storey Rupertswood Mansion which was built in Sunbury by Sir William Clarke in 1874. It had 50 rooms as well as a cellar and outbuildings ands built of bluestone. The tower is 100'(38.5metres) high. The card was sent by Waddy Paterson to his sister, Gladys, who was living at 89 Stirling Street, Perth in WA. He wrote the following message: "Dear Gladys, Keith and Waddy are having a grand time and we are here with Grandma and Auntie Anne in Sunbury we will be home soon now we leave by the SS Caroola on Wednesday 7th Dec. So be good until we come home your loving Waddy & brother Keith." Rupertswood Mansion is an important historic building in Sunbury and has had many functions over the years.
