Lou Riley ran the Ashril Cinema in Main Street Greensborough from 1949 to 1974. He leased the former Victory Theatre, formerly the Rechabite Hall and Masonic Lodge and purchased it in 1958. It was sold in 1974 and demolished. This image provides an additional later modified building view to that of the image of the original single storey building image published on back page of the 1910 MTS Annual Report. According to the Annual Report of 1915 the plans to build a residence on top ( the 2nd storey ) of the Port Melbourne building got the go ahead to commence and opened 1916. Originally designed by architect, Frederick Williams, who built the first brick Mission at Port Melbourne in the 19th C. Walter Butler was commissioned for the second storey.The Port Melbourne building in the image established in the 19th C., still survives. It was a key centre of operations for the Mission prior to the building of the Mission near Australian Wharf in 1907 and prior to the eventual opening of the current "Central Mission" in 1917. NB operations of The Port Melbourne Branch Mission were eventually transferred to the King George V memorial Building, dedicated in December 1937 but demolished in 1995. The mural of the artist's image of early Sunbury was painted on the garage wall of the Sunbury Presbytery. It could be viewed from the former court house garden. The first businesses opened in Sunbury in Macedon Street between Jacksons Creek and Jackson Street. The view in the mural is looking east towards Jacksons Creek.When the railway service reached Sunbury in 1859, the business area then relocated from Macedon Street to the Evans and O'Shanassy Streets precinct. Dr Donald Thomson's gate and entrance to his property 'Worlingworth' after flooding in March 1961 "Worlingworth", Eltham, was the home of noted anthropologist the late Professor Donald Thomson and his wife Dorita. The entrance gate on Banoon Road is located at the bottom of the hill opposite Haldane Road. The flooding issues were regularly reported to Council following heavy rain. In many situations, the photos provide a tangible visible record of infrastructure that existed throughout the early days of the Shire. An electrified tram route from Melbourne along High Street replaced an original Horse Tram that terminated at the Kew Cemetery. This new tram only reached the bridge over the Outer Circle railway at the Harp Junction.
