This is the first edition of the book, printed in 1899. It has since been reprinted with slight corrections in January 1900 and with correction in 1902. It is a textbook and reference book based on the study of steam, gas and oil driven machinery of the late 19th and early 20th century. The author, John Perry D. Sc., F.R.S., was born in 1850 and passed away in 1920. He was a Professor of Mechanics and Mathematics in the Royal College of Science, Vice-President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, and Vice-President of the Physical Society. Geelong Cycling Veterans Club was formed in 1971 but GWCC still conducted veteran races within the club. These medals appear to be remnants of awards not collected. Medals have always been awarded in recognition of achievement in competitive events. Even after 20+ years of veteran racing, the club still conducted veteran races which seems to indicate a large number older members were affiliated with the club.6 x Medals - one in gold metal conglomerate, three in bronze metal conglomerate, two in silver metal conglomerate. The front of the medals depict an olive wreath around the circumference, and has a racing cyclist painted on an enamel disk in the centre. During surgery under general anaesthetic, these forceps were used to pull the tongue forward to keep the patient's airways clear from obstruction. This tool was in general use from the 1930s onwards in teaching hospitals, and became a standard piece of equipment on all anaesthetic trolleys. In the majority of teaching hospitals, the blades of these forceps were smooth and wide to cause less trauma to the tongue. This particular style of tongue forceps is known as Guy's tongue forceps.Dr Mitchell Henry O'Sullivan worked in the Victorian country town of Casterton as a general practitioner from 1919 until his death in 1977. He also practiced obstetrics. His son, Dr David More O'Sullivan donated his obstetric bag and its contents to the College in 1999. The bag and contents are a unique time capsule of the type of instruments and pharmaceuticals used in the inter-war period.Pair of metal forceps. Similar in appearance to a pair of scissors, and other surgical forceps, but with rounded teardrop shaped tips. There is also a notch clip for the handle to keep the forceps open. Inner aspect of both forceps blades engraved with the number '3'. The left hand blade is also engraved with a 'P'.anaesthesia

The Panther lamp was made by Powell and Hanmer of Birmingham. (see Item 7354) This model appears to be dated from the 1920's. Early models of the automobile, motorbike and bicycles used carbide lamps as headlamps. Acetylene gas, derived from carbide, enabled early automobiles to drive safely at night. Thick concave mirrors combined with magnifying lenses projected the acetylene flame light. These type of lights were used until reliable batteries and dynamos became available, and manufacturers switched to electric lights.Carbide Vehicle Lamp.-Silvered Metal, Lens Assembly . The cape is of a style from the Victorian or the Edwardian Era and so provides a good example of women's clothing from that time. The light colour, silk material and lace suggest a cape used for special occasions with the possibility of initially being a wedding cape.The item is of significance historically and socially as an example of women's clothing in the Victorian and Edwardian eras.Ladies cape consisting of two circular tiers and a collar. The inner tier is knee length with a thin lace insert around the hem. The outer tier is elbow length with a wide lace edge and the thin lace insert inside this. The collar has lace edging and a lace insert of the same width. The lace used is of a repeat flower pattern most likely made of a combination of silk and cotton. The cape material appears to be a cream ribbed silk with the lining being of a polished cotton or silk variety. Both materials have a silken sheen in the right light. A silk ribbon ties the cape at the neck.
