Black and white photo. The hall at Fortuna Villa. Bottom left of a fire place with plants and deer sitting in it, on either end of the mantle are statues of ladies sitting reading, in the centre is a man holding up a disc shaped object. Along the wall there are a number of paintings one is of Sir George Lansell, others are landscapes. Also along the wall standing on the floor is a collectors cabinet on beautifully carved legs. A lady crouched down with an elbow on her knee, she is sitting on a pedestal. On the right of that is a cabinet is what appears to be a kerosene lantern then a Fire place screen. Programme - Program and Toast list, 1951
In 1890 Bendigo's first tramway battery-electric carriages operated between Sanhurst and Eaglehawk. In 1892 Battery-electrics were replaced by steam tram cars on the Bendigo Railway Station track to Eaglehawk. In 1903 Electric traction overhead was inaugurated extending to Quarry Hill, Golden Square and Lake Weeroona. In 1913 Open cross-seat cars added for the service Quarry Hill to Eaglehawk. In 1945 Traction bogie cars replaced older cars. In 1947 Birney safety cars (dead man controllers) replaced older carsToast list for a Bendigo Tramways Division Retirement Dinner - A complimentary Dinner tendered to Mr Arthur Douglas on his retirement after 31 years as Secretary of The Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association. Held at the Shamrock Hotel, Bendigo Saturday 29th September 1951. Inside are two tramways photos, one of the Bendigo Steam trams 1902, and the other of trams passing through Charing Cross in 1951. 'Discussed with Mr. Roberts re cheapest and bst method of supplying water to boiler, recommend a donkey engine. Mr. Lansell has one at the 180 which is not large enough for the big boiler and which is to be changed or sold for a larger one. This engine according to report costs 20 pounds. One of this kind will pump hot water which we require. Subject to your approval I have taken on John Roberts as engine driver. Reply from BHS - extract from 'Bendigo and Vicinity' re a Frederick Clark (''not the one you are researching''. In Bendigo and vicinity a Frederick Clark is written as born in Warwickshire in October 1834, left England after being taught the building trade, in 1856, and assisted in erection of old university buuildings in Carlton. Arrived in Bendigo in 1857, became interested in building batteries for quartz mining, travelling throughout Victoria and New Zealand with mining interests. Frederick entered the Eaglehawk council in 1870. Twice married his eldest son George was in the Education Department, His stepson Richard Hamilton - mining manager in Arizona U.S.A. The book Bendigo and Vicinity was printed in 1895, and this man is the only Clark mentioned.cottage, miners -
