Booklet - THE EXPERIMENT : Imagining the Albury - Wodonga National Growth Centre, Bruce J Pennay, 2013
... governments embarking on an "exciting adventure". This short book ...Introductory Abstract - "On its instigation in 1973, the Albury-Wodonga Growth Centre experiment was hailed as a novel and imaginative project. It was a "pilot scheme" that was expected to influence the urban settlement pattern in Australia. It was a "bold venture", a "brave attempt" to solve a longstanding problem. It involved three governments embarking on an "exciting adventure". This short book length catalogue essay (51 pages) provides an illustrated guide to the social history and visual arts exhibitions mounted for the 40th anniversary in 2013 of the inauguration of the Albury-Wodonga National Growth Centre experiment. The essay served as rationale and support for two council exhibitions at the Albury Library Museum and the Arts Space Wodonga in October and November 2013. The background story and the exhibitions are about place-making. They ask about the kind of place that has been made at Albury-Wodonga. How was it imagined, promoted, grown? They examine the experiment of developing Albury and Wodonga jointly and rapidly, and ask how that experiment relates to the place now and in the future. It assesses and gives a broad contextual account of the National Growth Centre experiment at Albury-Wodonga and traces important aspects of the story with emphasis on a local point of view. Melbourne Legacy
Photograph, The happiest girl in Vic, 1959
A photo and newspaper clippings from a book compiled about the Legacy children's residence called Stanhope. Elizabeth Brown was a resident at Stanhope after her father died in 1953 and she came to Melbourne from Seymour to compete further studies at Toorak Teachers College. She was chosen to present a bouquet to Princess Alexandra at the Royal Ball. Elizabeth wore a pink taffeta gown and was accompanied by a Legacy boy, Julian Hyde. One colour photo and two black and white photos taken at Stanhope prior to the event. More photos of this event have been found as slides and are catalogued separately. Stanhope was supervised by Matron Dorothy (Dorrie) Vines from the time it opened in 1946 until she retired in December 1966. It is likely she compiled this notebook as she is referred to as 'self' in one photo. Individual pages of photos or newspaper clippings have been added separately. Items 01817 to 01827. Blamey House (purchased 1947) , Stanhope (purchased 1945) and Harelands (purchased 1950) were residences run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers were servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for further education. Harelands accommodated boys and girls under the age of 14, Blamey House looked after boys over 14, and Stanhope looked after girls over 14. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent. A record of a Legacy girl being chosen to participate at an important event. Colour photo of Elizabeth Brown preparing to meet Princess Alexandra, and 2 black and white photos and newspaper clippings about the event.stanhope, residences, royal visit -

Book - Book, register, Legacy Archives Index
An early attempt to catalogue Legacy memorabilia which refers to 33 boxes of items split into subject matter such as 'History of Legacy', 'Finance Committee', 'Junior Legacy', 'Shrine', Group and Branch histories, and photograph albums. No indication of when it was compiled or by whom though it is presumed to be the Archive committee that was established by Frank Doolan who collected a lot of the items in the archive cabinets. Uses a rudimentary system of cataloguing e.g. 'H1. Inauguration of Remembrance Club. Box 1', where 'H' refers to History. 'S' refers to Shrine. Includes three loose typed and handwritten sheets listing films and tapes. A high number of History documents (H1 - H63) are filed in Box 25 - 01475 onwards. Believed to be from the archive project in the early 1970s by L/ Frank Doolan and L/ Brian Armstrong. This item appears to have catalogued at 00507 as well. TBC.A valuable snapshot of records held before the 1990s when a building refurbishment led to the destruction of a considerable amount of material.Invicta Series 80 Account Book, feint lined, 167 numbered pages. Book, The Ron Barassi Collection Auction Catalogue, 2016
... Auction Catalogue Book ...An auction catalogue of items being sold by AFL personality Ron Barassi in 2016. It appears to be a signed copy. The second last page is a note of thanks to Legacy for the help they gave Ron as a boy and mentions he made Legacy his lifelong charity. A note that accompanied the catalogue mentions Ron Barassi donated a significant amount of the sale proceeds to Legacy. Ron Barassi was helped by Legacy as a boy after his father, Ronald Barassi Snr died at Tobruk in 1941. Ron Barassi Snr was also a football player for Melbourne Football club. The catalogue on page 8 mentions that when his mother remarried and moved to Tasmania, Ron stayed in Melbourne with Norm Smith and family to further his football career. This is unlikely to be Legatee Norm Smith. Ron Barassi helped promote Legacy in many ways and at many events over many years.A record of important personalities such as Ron Barassi chose to donate to Legacy.Colour 104 page auction catalogue of items belonging to Ron Barassi.ron barassi, donations -
