William John ARCHER (Bill) No 321 enlisted in B Coy 21st Batt AIF on 18.1.15. Embarked for Eygpt 8.5.15. Hospital 9.9.15 with Influenza. Hospital 24.11.15 with Gastric Enteritis. Hospital 2.1.16 with Otitis Media. Transfers to the 57th Batt and embarks for France. Hospital with Trench Fever 4.10.16. Promoted to Cpl 28.4.17. Hospital 19.3.18 with Scabies. WIA 18.4.18 GSW's to chest and leg severe. Discharged from the AIF medically unfit 9.1.19. Alexander William ARCHER No 40637 enlisted in the RAAF on 16.5.41 age 18 years 8 months. He wanted to be a Mess Steward and was taken in as he had worked in similar work line. He then has 5 postings before embarking for Egypt on 2.4.1942 and was posted to No 3 SQD RAAF on 20.5.1942. Re mustered as a Motor Cyclist he became a Dispatch Rider on 8.9.1942 between the RAAF and the Army. Alex served in the Middle East and Italy with 3 SQD. He embarked from Egypt diagnosed with Kyphosis and Scoliosis on 5.2.1944. In Australia he was re mustered as Office Orderly on 6.7.1944 and then discharged from the RAAF on 2.10.1944 Medically Unfit. Wooden base with brass shells either end resembling Officers caps,one being WWI, the other WWII, both inscribed. Centre plaque inscribed Alex Archer and Bill Archer, father and son. The "A" was worn on a colour patch by those who served on Gallipoli. It was also approved for soldiers who served on Lemnos, Imbros & Tenedos Islands, hospital ships on or off Gallipoli. This patch belonged to Harold Hall No 270, 10th Batt & 7th Field Ambulance AIF. Refer 2062, 2064, 2065.Colour patch, cloth, rectangular shape, light blue over dark blue. Uniform - EMPIRE WOUNDED STRIPE WW1, 1916 onwards
First approved for wearing in 1916. A stripe was worn for each time wounded enough to take the person out of the front line. Worn vertically on the left forearm. Award - CHEVRONS WW1, 1917-19
Chevrons were worn inverted above the wrist on the right arm. The red stripe denotes that the soldier embarked in 1914. The blue stripes are for each year of overseas service. These chevrons were worn by Harold Hall No 270, 10th Batt & 7th Field Ambulance AIF. John George Duncan McInnes came from Lyall in Victoria. He enlisted in the AIF 29.2.1916 as No 5736 in the 6th Batt aged 26 years. He embarked on 3.7.1916 for England. He then transfered to the 59th Batt AIF. In the field he was hospitalised with Broncho Pneumonia and passed away on 31.12.1916. Refer 782.2, 786P.The outer brown frame has very fine markings in small circle arrangements. The centre photo has a frame edge with a flowing ribbon across the top. The centre photo itself is 100mm wide x 150mm high. Card - CARD, GREETING WW1, Pre 1917
The card was sent by James Henry Wicks to his sister, unknown. After serving in the 7th Batt, J H Wicks transfered to the 5th Machine Gun Batt AIF in France. He returned home in 1919Greeting card.The outer card is a parchment type paper fawn in colour. The front cover has a yellow ribbon band rectangular in shape glued to the card. A rectangular card is glued over this. The card contains flowers, an image of a church or mosque in a half circle. Above this to the right is wording. The card opens to a centre piece which is paper, a light blue in colour.Front cover in centre card. Believing ye Rejoice, 1.Peter.1.8. On the card itself, Greetings from a Soldier boy in Eygpt 1916. Memorabilia - WALLET & PHOTOS WW1, Post April 1915
Angus Mackay enlisted on 22.4.1915 in the 7th Reinforcements 5th Battalian AIF No 2486. He later transfered to the 57th Battalian AIF. Wounded in action and while being treated in the field a shell burst overhead killing him instantly on 19.8.1916. The wallet and photos belonged to his best mate George Freeman No 2485. They joined up together both aged 18 years and went wherever the other went.The wallet is a dark green in colour. It consists of three layers of material. The outer cover and inner section are both cotton and sewn together around the edges. Where the photos sit there is a fine layer of felt that sits over the photo to protect it. The photos are Post Card style copies of the originals for display purposes.The wallet has no markings or inscriptions. The grave photo on the Cross has the following; “IN LOVING MEMORY, KILLED IN ACTION, No 2486, SIG ANGUS MACKAY, HQ S” The rest is hidden under the flowers. The Toopship A.38 HMAT Ulysses sailed with Reinforcements from Melbourne on 27.10.1915. On board was Archibald Clarkson Jones, 2672, 6th Reinforcements to the 23rd Batt AIF. The photo is part of a collection of items relating to A C Jones. Refer 1040 medals.Black and white photo glued to a backing piece. The backing is cardboard, greyish blue in colour. There is a pressed edge around the photo to give the appearance of a frame.Under the photo is hand written in white ink, Reinforcements 23rd Bat 6th Inf Brigade marching on troopship A.38. Slouch hat and Uniform jacket belonging to Edwin James JONES No 3511 AIF. Refer 1367.5 for his service history. The hat was manufactured in 1918 by Dalter Lucas & Sons Bury, UK.
