The three 1887 coins represent the coins in use at the start of the horse tram operations in Ballarat and would have been used to pay for tickets. The 1911 coin was minted one year after Commonwealth Government started to mint Australian coins. Used as a souvenir ticket and postcard on the opening day of the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria (ESCo), Ballarat tramways on 18 August 1905, Has been punched for the Mount Pleasant and Orphanage - Grenville St section. Collected by David Budge - 1879 - 1974, son of William and Mary Budge of Trevor St Ballarat, who worked for the Victorian Railways as a blacksmith residing in Walnut St Carnegie. Photograph of Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo) Ballarat tram 18 in Wendouree Parade with the Gardens Kiosk in the background. Tram has a roof advertisement for Monosylk hosiery. There is a safety zone sign and two gentlemen standing alongside. The safety zone and line markings are unusual in Ballarat where passengers alighted or boarded on the lake side of the roadway. A related item could be 5904 which shows ESCo tram 9 offloading passengers on the "wrong side" for Ballarat at this location and a sign in position. Possibly a special event or a trial. One of a number of this type of tram still in working order in Australian tramway museums. Has no motors. Interior one of the few given a paint finish by SEC, others are varnished.
