The opening of the restored Old Lower Plenty Bridge, opened on 14/03/2001 by the Minister for Environment and Conservation Sherryl Garbutt MLA and Mayor of Banyule Cr Dale Peters. She was secretary of the Welcome Home committee in 1919. The original hospital was built in 1924 and the new building opened in 1962. It was closed after not being able to receive funding from State and Federal Governments. It's doors closed on January 31st 2008. A section of the hospital was run as a Nursing Home which opened in 1980. That too is closed. The Villa Alba Restoration Fund was established by the Villa Alba Preservation Committee. As part of a fundraising activity, they commissioned Suzie Dickson to photograph six panels in the Upper Hall that had been uncovered to date by conservators. The dado panels extend along the entire upper hall. Many are still to be restored. These images were used to create a series of six large postcards. The swimmers were seated on the diving board over Jacksons Creek at The Nook, which served as a swimming pool in Sunbury until 1966 when the long-awaited for swimming pool was officially opened in Ligar Street on19th January 1966. For a number of years before the official opening townspeople organised many fund raising events to pay for the new pool. This book by Dr Don Edgar, a well-known Australian sociologist, educator and historian, tells of the establishment and development of art galleries in regional Victoria. This includes the Warrnambool Art Gallery, established in the early 1880s. The book documents the efforts of local groups and individuals to set up art galleries and their battles with government indifference and lack of adequate funding extending up to the present day. This book is of considerable interest as it gives details of the founding and development of the Warrnambool Art Gallery, set in the context of the establishment of other early regional galleries in Victoria. It is an important addition to our research library. This is a soft cover book of 400 pages. This hat was part of the uniform of the Country Fire Brigade. The organization now known as the Country Fire Authority was established in 1945 as a volunteer and community-based organization providing fire fighting and emergency services in regional and rural areas in Victoria. Today the organization includes career fire-fighters and funding is partly provided by a levy included in local Council rates. The owner of this hat is not known. At Mont-des-Cats Abbey a first community of the Hospital Brothers of St. Anthony was settled in 1650 and lasted until the French Revolution which closed the monastery in 1792. In 1826, a new community of Trappists (Reformed Cistercians) was funded, and this congregation has run the abbey ever since. (wikipedia).
