Photograph, Eltham Community Festival Parade, 12 November 1988, 12/11/1988
[from a contemporary report:] In 1988 the assembly point for the Parade changed from previous years from Cecil Street to Youth Road behind the Eltham Station for the start of the parade at 12.00. The Shire of Eltham Historical Society's float in the Eltham Community Festival Parade won the award for the best display for the second year running. We received a trophy donated by the Billabong Family Bistro, Lower Plenty. The theme of the float was the Eltham Bush Nursing Hospital. The float was prepared by Bruce Ness with some help from other members. A number of members contributed with costumes and other props. Hospital equipment was kindly loaned by the Judge Book Village and in what has become something of a tradition, members of the Victorian Folk Music Club accompanied the Society for the Parade. Their music was again a welcome addition to the float.Colour photographeltham festival, shire of eltham historical society, 1988, central park, joh ebeli, doug orford, russell yeoman -

Ephemera - Program, Victoria Theatre Program, 1980s
The original Victoria Theatre opened on 16 February 1856 with a season by Lola Montez. She performed several farces and her famous spider dance, delighted the diggers and enraged the sensibilities of respectable people, with Henry Seekamp in the famous "whipping" incident with Montez in Ballarat. The program consisted of popular melodramas, farces and hits such as Rob Roy, The Lady of Lyons and the Count of Monte Cristo. The nautical drama Black-Eyed Susan was also very popular. This production "The Piper and Red riding Hood" was performed by The Mid-Night Players (Janet Low, Fay Jones, Natalie Jones, Fiona Hanrahan, Elizabeth Dale, Mark Jones, Bruce Roberts, Geoff Wallis, Matthew Brooks, Andrew Dark and Tom Rendall) at the replica Victoria Theatre at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat.A5 booklet with black ink printing on white card and paper.VICTORIA THEATRE THE PIPER AND RED RIDING HOOD THE MID-NIGHT PLAYERS ballarat, drama, melodrama, the piper and red riding hood, teh mid-night players, janet low, fay jones, natalie jones, fiona hanrahan, elizabeth dale, mark jones, bruce roberts, geoff wallis, matthew brooks, andrew dark, tom rendall, victorian theatre, sovereign hill -

Photograph - Widows function, Widows Christmas Concert at Melbourne Town Hall 1995, 1995
A regular event for the widows was a Christmas concert at the Melbourne Town Hall. The RAAF Central Band played for many years. Held in December each year. The photos show President Millie presenting flowers to Inez Bruce, Gwen Gunn and Irene Noll. Usually the concert was the time the Widows Clubs presented Legacy with funds raised through their fundraising each year - in this case $21,000 - and the president acknowledges with flowers. The article mentions that over 1,800 widows came together for the concert despite the rain and bad weather. The RAAF Central Band was conducted by Sq. Ldr. Graham Lloyd, and Ivor Lloyd (ex POW from Changi) and singer Lisa Hugo also performed. A regular event for the widows was a Christmas concert at the Melbourne Town Hall, held in December each year. Photograph - Speedmaster Printing Press Media Announcement and Army Survey Regiment Open Day, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo, 1990
The first photograph was probably taken at a media event announcing the introduction of the Heidelberg Speedmaster printing press in late 1990. LTCOL Rene van den Tol was the CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1989 to 1991. Partly obscured behind the CO was Mr Bruce Reid, who was the newly elected federal member for Bendigo. The media event was held in Wayzgoose Hall, Lithographic Squadron’s new purpose-built building constructed to house the Speedmaster 102 printing press. The remaining 29 photographs were taken at an Army Survey Regiment Open Day at Fortuna Villa, Bendigo on the 24th of February 1990. This occasion was one of several events held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Survey Corps. Although historical tours of Fortuna occurred on a regular basis, this was the first technical open day since 1972. The Royal Australian Survey Corps recognised that an Open Day was the best way for the local community in Bendigo to gain an insight into the unit’s important role as Defence’s map production agency, its technical equipment, and its economic importance to Bendigo. It also gave them an opportunity to tour through historic Fortuna Villa. This occasion is covered in more detail in page 143 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4. Refer to Item 6291.6P for more photos of the Open Day.The first photograph was probably taken at a media event announcing the introduction of the Speedmaster printing press at Army Survey Regiment Fortuna Villa, Bendigo in late 1990. The Ballarat School of Mines traditionally had a strong Australian Rules Football team. The 1982 team included Tony Lockett who went on to play at the highest level becoming the highest goal scorer in the history of the VFL/AFL with 1,360 goals in a career of 281 games, that commenced in 1983 with the St Kilda Football Club, and finished in 2002 with the Sydney Swans. Lockett is the only full-forward ever to win the coveted Brownlow Medal, in 1987, a season in which he was decorated with several honours. He is a four-time Coleman Medallist, kicked more than 100 goals in a season on six occasions (an AFL record), and is a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame. (Wikipedia) In 2015 Tony Lockett was elevated to the state of Legend in the Australian Football League Hall of Fame.Photograph of the Ballarat School of Mines Australian Rules Football team taken at the Ballarat School of Mines. Melbourne Legacy
Album - Photo album, A record of comradeship activities, 1970s-1980s
This album of Comradeship activities was compiled by Legatee Fred Holdsworth. It contains photographs, newspaper cuttings and ephemera relating to various “Comradeship” activities (social gatherings) held throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. Items included various events legatees participated in. First few pages had photos from a gathering at Cruden Farm on 15 May 1977. Cruden Farm was owned by Elisabeth Murdoch, the mother-in-law of Legatee Geoff Handbury. It appears there was a kite flying contest. Names are not listed. Three photos were from Queensland where Legatee Wal Escott had retired at Mundoona apartments, Noosa Heads, one photo shows him with Lorna Grimwade on 6/10/1979. There is a black and white photo of Max Armstrong, Rex Hall, Harry Burton, Warren Hardy riding horses in the Anzac Day march. The year is not known but an accompanying newspaper article mentions that they had been riding every year for 13 years on horses loaned by the police mounted branch. The newspaper clipping shows another photo of the four. A photo of seven legatees including David Carter were at the Numurkah Annual meeting in 1978. There are 8 photos of a gathering of Legatees and their wives at Stanhope in 1979. A photo of a Christmas party at Chaucers in 1979 was missing from the page, it has shown Choirmaster Reg Thomson and Choristers; Rob Allison, Bruce Hall, Les Patch, Bill Seager, David Syme and Ron Austin; with the M.C. being Fred Holdsworth. There was a trip to a trout farm in Alexandra Yea area in February 1978. At a comradeship evening there a photos showed the Comradeship committee of Harold Berg, John Cooper and Fred Holdsworth. Also photos from Anzac Night in 1980 and 1981. Plus other gathering at people's homes. A black and white photo of men in formal black tie, is from a night at the Windsor Hotel to farewell Sit Thomas White to become Australia's High Commissioner in London. Left to right are Sir Archie Michaelis, Sir John Latham, Sir Thomas White, Lt Col Donovan Joynt and Sir Stanley Savige. At the 1981 comradeship Christmas party, the held a 'this is your life' tribute to President Ken Green. The Comradeship photo album was put together by the Comradeship committee and records events that Legatees did and places they lived or visited. Some appear to be trips to visit other Legatees living overseas and social occasions held in different places. It shows the bond that Legatees have with each other.Brown vinyl photo album. The front cover is embellished with a double gold border.
