Demonstrates how the SEC used signage to communicate important information to staff.An enameled metal plate sign in an off-white colour, hand painted with black lettering. The sign reads "AIR BRAKE OPERATING END". The sign is curved, and all four corners have been angled. There is a hole in each of the corners to enable attachment to the tram cab. Horizontal lines have been drawn to ensure the even height and spacing of the lettering. The back of the sign has been painted a brass colour, although some of this has flaked off with wear. Demonstrates how the SEC used painted metal signs to advise and remind staff of procedures for operating equipment.A metal sign painted in red. Hand painted lettering reads "THIS END RELEASE AIR BEFORE HAND BRAKE IS APPLIED" painted in off white. The corners of the sign have been rounded, with a hole made in each corner for attaching to the tram car. The reverse has the number 33 printed in small black lettering. Demonstrates how the SEC used etched signs to provide information for their staff.A small, etched brass metal plate reading "SOLE AGENTS AUSTRALIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 217 CLARENCE STREET SYDNEY AND C/R QUEEN AND LITTLE COLLINS STREET MELBOURNE H.R.9266". The etched lettering background has been painted black, with the lettering proud in brass. Although the reverse was originally painted, much of the paint has worn off. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.A silver-plated Georgen style silver plated floral bowl in its original box. The base is ten centimetres diameter pedestal with a decorative scroll around the edge, it's five centimetres high and tapers four and a half centimetres. The bowl has a flat bottom with curved sides that rise six centimetres to a 14 centimetre opening. The lid has a decorative scroll on its edge which supports an open grid of five concentric circles with eight pieces radiating from the centre circle. Inside the bowl there is an eight centimetre diameter plastic frame to hold flowers. Engraved on the bowl is NORTHEN DISTRICT SCHOOL OF NURSING IN APPRICIATION POLICE EXAMINATIONS 1982. Engraved on the base is SILVER PLATED IANTHE OF ENGLAND The brown cardboard box has blue and white writing- IANTHE No 178 GEOGIAN STYLE, an image of the bowl, SILVER PLATED FLORAL BOWL. After a quiet period, interest in bookplates in Australia began to increase in the early 1970s, Entrepreneurial art and book collectors such as Edwin Jewell and others commissioned multiple Bookplate designs from a range of well known fine artists. At a 1997 meeting in Melbourne of the Ephemera Society of Australia Edwin Jewell and others announced the formation of the Australian Bookplate Society. The society was instrumental in promoting the art of the bookplate through establishment of the Australian Bookplate Design competition. A vintage 1918 hardcover children's book with the title Chatterbox printed in white lettering at the top of the front cover which has a green coloured background with an illustration in a large circle showing a boy and girl playing in hay. The publisher details are printed at the bottom. It is bound on the left side with red tape. The cream and red coloured back cover has an advertisement for "Pears" soap 'This only is the witchcraft I have used' showing a smiling woman talking to a man. Both are dressed in Victorian Era style clothes. The frontispiece coloured illustration inside depicts four Egyptian black men on a Dhow boat chasing another boat next to it. 'Chasing Gun-Running Dhows' is the name of the illustration. The title page has the title plus Founded by J. Erskine Clarke, M.A and publisher details with a black lined illustration of children, a woman with children at her knee reading and flowers. There are further coloured plates in the collection. There are many puzzles, poetry, and stories for children. Pp. 316. Fanny Flinn married artist Walter Withers in London, England in 1887/1888. Margery Pitt Withers was their daughter who was born January 13, 1890 at Handsworth, Warwickshire, England during a visit by her mother Fanny to her parents. Walter Withers became associated with the Heidelberg School of Artists. Withers and his family lived in Eltham from 1903.
