Negative (120) of the intersection of Moreland Road and Sydney Road, Brunswick, during the 1920's. In the view is a cable tram set shunting. A tramway employee and two boys at the front of the grip car seem to be manipulating something. Saloon car is No. 183 with the conductor pushing the car. The grip car has the destination of Brunswick and the saloon Flinders St? Note the two steel tramway poles and overhead for the North Coburg electric tram service from Moreland Rod into Sydney Road. In the background is the Moreland Hotel, Clarkson chemist and the Commercial Bank of Australia. An low resolution A4 laminated was received with the negatives. In the image are adverts for Col. W. de Basil's Covent Garden show at Her Majesty's Theatre, Fosters Lager, Hoyts De Luxe Bourke St a Richard Greene film. Letter issued on PTC Coloured letterhead, with V/Line and The Met logos on the base, to all tram and bus employees, from Keith Fitzmaurice, discussing pay opportunities, the Tramways Union refusal to participate, Christmas Wishes and looking forward to work together in 1990. Undated as such. Consists of two sheets of paper and two tickets stapled together in the top left hand corner. Attached to the letter is a sheet giving current and proposed pay rates for bus drivers, conductors and tram drivers. Photo of ESCo No. 8 - side on view of tram. Has Driver standing by front of tram, a person, possibly conductor standing by rear, though tram set up for one man operation. Good detailed side view of tram, showing arrangements of blinds, seats etc. Has "Suttons Pianos" advertisement on side and "Pictures Coliseum tonight" ad on the inside middle window. Tram has been converted to have windscreens. Three ladies on the front seat section of the tramcar. Date unknown. Post 1912. Tram still has magnetic brakes. The step section by the seats has not been covered over with sheet metal to prevent people standing on the steps, as shown in later photographs. Photo taken in Wendouree Parade with the Garden's Kiosk in the background. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways management system of operations, the way the crews were given information on operating times, lunch breaks etc. The last timetable alteration.Single sheet of off white duplicating paper titled "On and Off - Total Times of Duty". Printed by wax cut stencil or Gestetner method. Details the sign on / sign off times for each run number operated by Motormen / Conductors and where they signed on, either depot or city and the total time worked for that particular shift. Has "LJD / 3/70", showing that Les Denmead authorised the roster. Was part of D. J. Everett papers. 2296.1 - as above, but typed original in a vertical or portrait format, rather than a landscape format. Notes the number of staff employed, Mr. L. J. Demonstrates a conductors communication bell made by or for the Melbourne Cable Tram Operator and then reportedly subsequently used on ESCo No. 12. Brass Conductor Communication Bell, consisting of frame, bell, striker, bell pull section, one nuts and two pins. Cast with the initials "MTO" - Melbourne Cable Tram operator, in one end of the frame. Bell donated, reportedly off ESCo 12. Short bell type. Bell cleaned of grime - 12/2009 See Other Notes. The lady who had this bell, rang the depot sometime in May June, to ask if we were interested in it, yes, said it came from No. 12 in Nerrina, family connection to the people. Demonstrates how the SEC used enamel signs to convey instructions to passengers or to confirm the advice of the conductor and how enamel signs were made.Enamel sign, black capital letters and lines on white background, with words in lower case "NOTICE It is the Conductor's duty to issues a Check for every fare received. This Check denotes the destination to which the Passenger is entitled to travel, and must produced on demand, or another fare paid.". Sign has a black enamel backing, with marks from the enamelling process and holes in each corner. The words "NOTICE" and "produced on" and "another fare" have been chipped off. Two copies held. On rear is a manufacturer's notice (A. Simpson and Son Limited Enamellers of Pirie St Adelaide) regarding fixing the sign and possible damage to surface. Bye-Laws jointly authorised by City of Geelong, Borough of Newtown and Chilwell and Borough of Geelong West, under the provisions of the Tramways Act 1890. Dated 1929. Each copy has a book number stamped on the top right hand corner of page 1. Copy 1 - 739 Copy 2 - 765 Copy 3 - 766 Replaced by Reg. Item 3109 in 1932 by the SEC. Conductor and Soloist: Walter Susskind. Walter Susskind (with photo), During his two years as resident conductor of the Victorian Symphony Orchestra, Walter Susskind has left an indelible impression on music lovers by his conducting and his personality, both of which have endured him to concert audiences everywhere. Walter Susskind is now relinquishing his appointment of the permanent conductorship for the A.B.C. in Victoria to return overseas, and this final tour by the Victorian Symphony Orchestra for the 1955 season is also Mr Susskind's finale in Australia. An appealing future of these concerts to be presented over several provincial centres in turn will be the . . . Analytical Notes. Bendigo Concert Series Discontinued. The Australian Broadcasting Commission announces with regret that it has been found necessary to restrict the nimber of concerts presented in Bendigo each year pwing to the lack of sufficient support of these activities. Since 1947 the A.B.C. has presented a series of rour concerts each year in Bendigo. Demonstrates uniform cap manufacture, badge and has a strong association with a former Ballarat Driver - Norm HuntSEC Motorman/Drivers/Conductors cap - green cloth exterior, grey cotton interior lining, brown leather internal hat band, black cotton hat band on exterior with a plastic band at the front half of the cap terminating in two small SEC metal buttons on either side, black plastic peak fitted with cap or badge No. 20, nickel plated silver, in the centre of the cap above the hat band.
