‘Devon’, 3 Vincent Street Built in 1906 by Aaron Wyatt of 46 Essex Road for Mr and Mrs Charles Ansell Smith and their family. The Smith family lived at ‘Devon’ until c1916 when they leased it for two years to William Everard who became a Member of Parliament of the Upper House of Victoria A black and white photograph of an Edwardian Style weatherboard house with an L-shaped verandah and roofed with corrugated iron. Methodist Church meetings and services are known to have been held in tents on the Lintons diggings from the late 1850s. A small wooden church was built in in 1858-59 in Sussex Street, Linton (near where Shepherd's store was located). Sunday School meetings began there in November 1859. By 1860 the church building was considered too small. The land was sold to Mr. Brewer, and the building was removed to a site in Grantley Street and enlarged. Shortly after this, it was decided to build a new church, a wooden structure which was opened in 1861. This building was still in use at the time of the Methodist Church Jubilee in 1910, however around 1905 a fund was established to build a new brick church (pictured), which was opened in 1913. The Lodewyckx family made their home at 3 Beatty Street, Mont Albert coming to the area after staying for six months at 'Medlow', the home of Dr Bull and his family while the latter were overseas. The photograph shows a picture of Evans Street Sunbury taken from the T intersection at Macedon Street and looking south. When the photograph was taken it was one of Sunbury's main residential areas. Since the 1980s the houses in the image have been demolished and replaced with commercial development. Over the years Evans Street has undergone much change from being a residential strip to being the main commercial hub in Sunbury.A sepia photograph with a white border across the bottom and in post card format of a streetscape with a row of trees growing along the footpath and a number of weatherboard Victorian style double fronted cottages. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Metal plate made for T.W.Clark of 205 Bourke Street Melbourne. It is the Trade Mark stamp. John Simpson arrived in Bacchus Marsh around 1848. In 1850 he established a butchery business. He continued to operate this business in Main Street Bacchus Marsh until his death in 1890. His son John Simpson and one of his brothers, Edward took over the business and operated it until 1923. John Simpson the younger died in 1940 having lived all but a few months of his 92 years in Main Street Bacchus Marsh. Edward L. Simpson died in Corowa, NSW in 1937. The younger John Simpson's recollections of Bacchus Marsh in the 1850s to 1870s were published in the Bacchus Marsh Express on the 25 June 1932.Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph. Two men are standing close together in front of the shop. One is wearing a butcher's apron. Another man to the left sits upon a horse. In the doorway behind the men stands a woman.
