... Postcards ...The postcard shows St Vincent's Hospital, on the northern side of Victoria Parade, Fitzroy, circa 1914. At left is the original hospital building, a converted terrace house, alongside the first purpose-built wing opened 1905 and the Cullen Wing (with facilities for medical students and residents) on the right. A group of two men and three boys stands on the footpath outside the Cullen Wing and a car is parked outside the main hospital building in the centre of the photograph. The reverse of the postcard is a letter from a niece to her uncle and aunt detailing their day trip into Melbourne, the places they saw, the people they met and the activities they took part in.This postcard is significant since it provides a rare view of the hospital from this location at this point in its history.Black and white postcard showing photograph of St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne on the front and a letter is written in pencil on the reverse.On the reverse is a handwritten letter in pencil from a niece to her aunt and uncle about a day trip they took into Melbourne. Postcard shows an ESCo tram soon after commencement in 1905, at the corner of Armstrong and Sturt Streets, Ballarat. The tram has a destination sign hung from the drivers dash canopy. On the left is the Snows Department store and a pole with telegraph/telephone wires and insulators. The Thomas Moore Statue is adjacent to the tramcar. The original postcards in this series (2013.002 to 2013.018) were generously loaned to Williamstown Botanic Gardens by a private collector for copying. They are evidence of the interest the gardens held as a subject for postcard publishers. The text and images provide a snapshot into fashions, social interests and concerns of the time. The professionally produced images provide a pictorial history of Gardens including changing planting styles, various structures and features of the Gardens eg the aviary, cannons, the fountain, the second Curator’s Lodge and gates. A postcard from Kristiania, which is the former name of Oslo, Norway. The title says 'Kristiania. Stortinget og Grand Hotel'. The Stortinget is the name of the parliament building, which is the building on the right of the picture. The Grand Hotel is on the left. The postmark is 1924 which is before Kristiania was renamed Oslo in 1925. The link to Legacy is not known. There are many postcards in the collection from different times and people.This postcard has an aesthetic and historical significance, the perfect handwriting shown on the back of the postcard certainly represents a significant way of traditional handwriting used at that time. Postcards were a common form of correspondence in the early 20th century.Matte finished paper postcard with a printed photo of the Stortinget and Grand Hotel in Oslo, Norway. Printed postcard/ticket for the 16/9/1905 Railway Picnic by the Electric Supply Co of Victoria promoting Bendigo Tramways. Has three views of ESCo's depot and power station and one of a tram. Ticket priced at 6d. On the rear is an advertisement for Henderson & Goodisson's Beehive drapery, furniture, and Carpets. The letter has been sent to Mr Lewis Morgan of Pitfield Plains Vic, noting the trams.
