Clothing - CAMISOLE, Late 1800s
White camisole with round neckline with 4 cm deep fine woven lace. Neckline is shaped into six sided effect. Short sleeves edged with the same lace. There are four pearl buttons behind a concealed front opening. Two groups of three pintucks are on either side of the centre front. There is an 8 cm deep peplum and a casing with a cotton drawstring tape to define the waistline. A front yoke of fine lace and cut work embroidery has a scalloped shaped edge to the bodice.'BHS' written in pencil on the back peplum.costume, female, underwear -

Caption: Eaglehawk's Wayne Hillman submitted this photograph taken in the late 1960s of his father Gilbert, at right in black coat, loading briquettes outside the Bucknell and Jeffrey store where he worked. The carrying and storage business was located in Railway Place, near where the Discovery Centre is today. Thomas Gerard Jeffrey was a principal of the company until it was sold in 1973. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Asphalt works: Day Street, Bendigo. Business owner Alfred Day was born in 1845 at Chilwell, Nottinghamshire. He came to Australia and worked in Eaglehawk for eight years as a miner. He established a business trading as the Bendigo City Bone Mills and Asphalt Works in 1874. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Fortuna villa: originally a resplendent villa of two storeys comprising six rooms in the ground floor and five on the second. It was situated beside the New Chum line of reef and was of 350 square metres. In 1887 Fortuna was enlarged with the addition of a mansard between the billiard and music rooms. The entrance hall was demolished and replaced with the hall which stands today. Work continued until 1904 by which time Fortuna was three storeys high. The building was befitting any prince, and soon became an entertainment centre for notable visitors to Bendigo. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. The Apothecary's: the residence and surgery of Dr. J. McIntyre Eadie. Lured by gold fever in 1852, John McIntyre came to Bendigo from Scotland. In 1855 he married Jean Grant (sister of Dr. James Eadie) and immediately formed a partnership with Eadie to establish an apothecary (chemist) shop at View Point, Sandhurst. James Eadie had arrived at the diggings in 1854 from Scotland. The partnership was dissolved in 1869, yet Dr. Eadie continued his work as a surgeon until 1897. Bendigo Advertiser December 23, 1970 - Museum For Bendigo Proposal. Bendigo Museum Society plans to establish a museum of applied science and natural history in Bendigo, and hopes the City Council will provide a building for such a museum. President Dr. W. Straede and Secretary Mr. E. Wilkinson explain their plan to council. Mr Wilkinson, a geologist with the Mines Department , who formerly worked at the National Museum in Melbourne believes Bendigo would readily support such a museum providing a building was supplied by council for the venture to go ahead. Cr A.E. Galvin asked if the Bendigo Museum Society had any particular building in mind and an expression of interest in the Temperance Hall was raised. Cr. J.C.M. Bendigo Advertiser, Tuesday June 10, 1986 page 3. Bendigo City Council is in the process of extensive works in Barnard and Don Streets, the work includes lowering the road level. As result of council work it has been necessary to remove the 900 mm water main, excavate lower and replace the water main. In the first photo Ganger one operator Mr. Allen Parker at work on the main trunk water feed while Mr. Paul Somerville operated the rock breaker and Mr. Max Welsford operated the angle grinder.
