Designed in 2004 by sculptor Peter Lambert the memorial honours more than 35,000 Australians held prisoner of war during the Boer War, both world wars and the Korean War.Landscape featuring the Ballarat Prisoner of War Memorial. The memorial includes a 130 metre long wall of highly polished granite engraved with the names of all Australian prisoners of war. The precis No 3 covers the Observation procedure to be used for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Order Triangulation using the Royal Australian Survey Corps standard Cooke, Troughton and Simms Tavistock or Wild T2. The geodetic model Tavistock with a 5.25" horizontal circle should be used for 1st Order Triangulation and maybe used for 2nd Order Triangulation if specially directed. The standard Tavistock with 3.5" horizontal circle or the Wild T2 should be used for 2nd and 3rd Order observations. The Precis discusses the types of errors, the source of errors and the best ways of managing them. The photo was taken on ANZAC Day 1985 at the Kangaroo Flat RSL service with Bill Forrest leading. William (Bill) Malcolm Forrest was born in Moora WA, enlisted 12.4.1951 No 5/1788 age 18 years and became a Sapper. After attending Battle School in Japan he then served with 3 RAR in Korea, DVA file states 12.7.1953 to 15.7.1954. He later went on to serve with 2 RAR in Malaya. He was discharged after 6 years service on 11.4.1957, discharge certificate states Active Service being 1 year 337 days. He re enlisted again on 11 3.1958 with Regt No 36283 and served another 17 years 165 days and was discharged with the rank of Sgt on 22.8.1975. During this engagement he had Corps and Trade Training 6 months, Regimental, Steward, Army Mess Supervisor and General Duties with Training and Survey Units.Photograph B & W showing a group of men marching in an ANZAC Day Parade. This collection of 19 photos was most likely taken in 1979 in Air Survey Squadron. The PDP 11/70 minicomputer shown photos .2P to .3P was the operating system introduced in 1977 as the mainframe system for the control of the APC4, aerial triangulation block adjustments, SORA OP Analytical Orthophoto control, APR Analytical Terrain Profile Recorder computation, graphics, and general computing. The Zeiss (Jena) Stecometer analytic stereocomparator for air photography shown in photos .5P to .9P was introduced at Air Survey Squadron in 1963. Aerotriangulation production was expedited using computers for analytical photogrammetric processes. The technician accurately measured between pass, tie, and survey control points on aerial photographs. The OMI/Nistri AP/C-3 analytical plotter shown in photos .10P and .11P was introduced in 1972–1973. Photo .11P shows a coordinatorgraph attached to the AP/C-3. The Zeiss D2 Planimat Stereoplotter shown in photo .12P was used for analytical orthophoto control. Wild PUG4 point transfer devices shown in photos .17P to .19P were introduced in c1968 superseding the PUG2 devices. PUG4 devices were used by technicians to stereoscopically view the photography containing the survey control points and the mapping aerial photography. The Control points were transferred from the control photography to the mapping diapositives of aerial photography by drilling their locations into the photographic emulsion.This is a set of 19 photographs of Air Survey Squadron personnel operating aerotriangulation equipment at the Army Survey Regiment at Fortuna, Bendigo, c1979. Initially the Eltham War Memorial Trust had invited the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria, Lieut-General Sir Edmund Herring to perform the opening ceremony however he was not available. The World War One Memorial Stained glass windows in the Barkly Street Uniting Church resulted from a request made in 1919 by the Barkly Street Young Men's Club to be given permission to raise money to pay for the project. The window was designed by Fisher Co. Pty Ltd, and was unveiled by a former army chaplain - either Rev. J.A. Gaunt or Rev. Bladen on the 14th March 1920. The total cost of the windows was 171 pounds 10 shillings. Manuscript titled "A brief history of the Tramways of Bendigo", prepared by Keith Kings during 1965 based on the text in the last paragraph. Was to be a joint effort with Wal Jack, notes Wal's death in 1964. Provides a short history of Bendigo, the construction and operation of the battery and steam tram system, the take over and construction of the electric tramways by the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria. Includes the takeover by the SEC, replacement tramcars, the North Bendigo extension, exchange of cars with Ballarat, Geelong, attempts to close the system and operations during the mid 1960s. The material in this manuscript would have formed by the basis of a booklet published by the ARHS/TMSV at the time of the closure of the SEC operated tramways in 1971.Yields information about the history of Bendigo Tramways written in 1965. J. H. Carolin was active in municipal politics from 1886 - 1913. He began his career in Kyneton and arrived in Bendigo in 1879. Councillor Carolin became Mayor for the first time from 1889 - 90 and then again in 1907 -08. John Paul Carolin married Mary Corcoran in 1861and together had 10 children. World War 2 Soldiers’ Memorial 1999. "In remembrance WW2 and Korean War, Malaysia, Borneo, Vietnam". The unveiling ceremony of the memorial was held on Sunday Nov 4th, 1956, by Lieutenant Edmond Herring. KCMG. DSO. MC. EO.
