Historical information
Initially the Eltham War Memorial Trust had invited the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria, Lieut-General Sir Edmund Herring to perform the opening ceremony however he was not available. In his place, the third and final stage of the building of Eltham's war memorial, the children's library, was opened on Remembrance Day 1961 by Mr. W.R. Garrett, M.H.R.
