Retains original colour scheme of chocolate, cream and read. Served its last days as a breakdown tram confined to Elwood depot. Built by Pengelley & Co of Adelaide in 1913, entered service between May and July 1913. Number 20 served for 5 years until the toastrack design became obsolete and it was replaced. Conductor had to move along narrow running board and enter compartments from the outside to collect fares 5 mile journey took 29 minutes Trams had gas-light fittings made of brass and displayed notice to occupants: "Please hand as nearly as possible the exact fare to the conductor. The Victorian Railways continued to operate a bus service along the former Black Rock - Sandringham line, long after the tram line closed. Document prepared to provide the concepts for separation of traffic along St Kilda Road and Brighton Road using safety bars, and reserved sections of roadway between Princes Bridge and Glen Huntly Road. Dated May 1979. Has an introduction, and notes the widening of St Kilda Road south of Cochrane St and its impact. Provides the Rules and Regulations for the St Kilda - Brighton Electric Street Railway, dated June 1907. The railway opened on 5/5/1906 and to Brighton on 22/12/1906. the latter largely as a single track. Has the name F E Bradford on the front cover. Gives rules for crossing cable tram lines, those for drivers, speeds, conductors, accidents, bell signals, signals on overhead line, regulations for working by staff and ticket, pilot working, rules for workers on the permanent way, and additional rules such as collecting money from passengers for breaking windows. Photo, from The Age used in item 7194 reporting on the closure of the St Kilda - Brighton tramway from Elwood depot to Middle Brighton on 1/7/1957. Photo shows Victorian Railways tram No. 35 at St Kilda Railway station with the privately operated bus behind. The service was operated by the Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service using some half-cab buses. The bus is a Leyland OPS4 built in 1950 and subsequently sold to Eastern Suburbs Omnibus service in 1957. VR 25 originally operated on the broad gauge track from St Kilda Station to Brighton, then in 1919 was converted to standard gauge to operate on the Sandringham to Black Rock line. Photograph shows a side view of a single truck closed cross-bench tram with trolley pole raised and depot workman in driver cabin. No tram number is visible. A coupling device appears to be a feature at one end. Behind the tram are trees and perhaps gardens.
