This calendar was found in a shed and is interesting because of the phone number being Poowong 1, when the telephone exchange was at the local post office. the Butter factory is no longer operating nor is the Foodland grocery store that was part of the same business.Only known calendar in existence.grubby cardboard calendar 1961 front page hanging off. centre colour picture has a small hole in it. Staples are rusted. The months January and Feb. dates printed either side of picture. ... Calendars ...A booklet on dream interpretation dispersed with advertisements and testimonials for Doan's medicines. Originally published in 1904, this likely is an early 1920's printing. Many booklets like this were produced as PR material to increase product sales between c. 1900 - 1915. They were given to the more affluent customers or clients by the local shopkeepers of the period and are interesting Australiana historical publications. They were anywhere between 8 to 32 pages. The De Witt's booklet is similar with advertisements and information on various medicinal products produced and sold by the company for ailments. p.32.An extremely damaged, old and worn black covered booklet about ailments that people suffer with the title Doan's Dream Book. The front cover has an illustration of an ancient Egyptian woman sitting on a large stone chair with a child at her feet playing a type of harp. 'I wonder if Dreams Come True' is written at the bottom with the publisher details. It has many examples throughout of how these illnesses may be improved with advertising for products too. The back cover has lists of medication made by Doan's. p. 32. De Witt's 200 Year Calendar and Book of Horoscopes has a red, black, pink and cream front cover showing an oval with horoscopes drawn around the edges and a mountain with a yacht sailing on a river with 'The Quest for Health' written below. The title is written at the bottom of the cover. This booklet has the 200 year calendar at the front with dates from 1776 - 1976. It represents a time in in Port Fairy when there were several butchers in the town and competition for customers was fierce. Norman Collins butchers was situated in Sackville Street where a dress shop now occupies the site.An advertising piece that places Norman Collins as butcher in 47 Sackville Street and a rare example of this type of advertising.Bamboo, advertising,give away calendar with green ribbon hanger for Port Fairy butcher (calendar removed). Printed with rural scene of ducks and hunting dogs. Bamboo slats are joined by thread and the ribbon is attached to the top of the calendar for hanging. Mr P L Phillips operated a general store in Liebig Street in the early part of the 20th Century. He was a highly regarded member of the community. He was community minded and promoted support for local industry, advertising his locally made or sourced products. He and his wife were involved in the Congregational church and music. He was mentioned in The Warrnambool Standard as arranging an Honour Roll for the Aboriginal soldiers who fought in WW1, with two losing their lives. The Nestle Company has been a long established business and major employer in Warrnambool (Dennington) since the early 20th century until it was purchased by Fonterra around 2000. The significance of this item lies in the connection of a large company with a strong presence in Warrnambool, and a small business combining to promote a patriotic theme which would have been very important in the days proceeding the First World War. Light white card with details enclosed within a light grey frame and text. Nestle Milk is in large text across the top, above a coloured picture depicting soldier and sailor in uniform in oval with kangaroo and emu in gold. A brown bulldog stands above in front of the Australian flag and on top of the Union Jack. Nestle product advertising is on both sides of this picture. Calendar details are at the bottom with P.L. Phillips & Co details in the centre. Metal strip along top and bottom.Cloth tag at top. Defence not Defiance at base of picture. Molly Wicking in black ink at bottom of calendar.
