Historically significant for at the time it demonstrated aspects of the evolution of Ballarat Tramways and yields information about the formation of the tramways, the Councils viewpoint and has a strong association with the Mayor of the time.Twenty two page book, produced by photocopying, side stapled and bound with a red plastic binding, titled "Mayor's Special Report Ballarat Tramways", dated 20 September 1971 for presentation to the City of Ballaarat Council Meeting 27 Sept. 1971 and signed by the Mayor, J.A.Chisholm. Note pages 18 and 19 have been reversed. Comprises: Page 1 - map (image 1829i1) - of Ballarat (Ballaarat) showing the horse tram routes in red (appear to have been drawn in with a red pencil). Demonstrates and yields information about the ESCo tickets of 1906, shows the variety of tickets and passes used.Framed - wooden surround, glass, set of 26 actual tickets and two sketches of passes, timber backing board with the title "Ballarat Tramways - Sample tickets", dated 1906. Sets out the various tickets used by ESCo at the time and most likely used as a training aid for new conductors on both the electric and horse trams. Not to be displayed in light or hung up, that is display with care as fading is likely. Demonstrates aspects of tramway operation, cancelling or showing that tickets had been inspected following sales to passengers by the conductor or motorman. Traditionally used by tramway operators to check or cancel tickets. Possibly has a strong association with Les Denmead - could have personally been used by Les, or collected at the time of closure.Brass cast, chrome plated, machined, device used to cancel or punch paper tickets when purchased. Punch of the type that placed a circular hole in the ticket. Spring loaded, consists of two main parts with a pin & spring. The 2nd last ticket to be issued by the conductor of the last SEC operated tram (see Reg Item 3264 for the last ticket) in Ballarat. Issued to Les Denmead by Lew Walker and marked on rear as such. Collected by the tramway Superintendent.Single SEC 16c ticket - yellow ink on off white paper, denomination 16c, lettered A521544, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. On rear in yellow ink is a SEC advertisement "ELECTRICITY makes life easier" with the SEC's little boy wrapped in a towel logo. The ticket number is in black ink.
