The public toilet block in Linton is decorated with hand-made terracotta tiles depicting historic themes. The tiles were produced as part of the Press Mould Tile Project 2001-2002 by Linton Primary School students and community members. Tile design and project coordination was by Pam Farey and Anne Dietrich, and instructors were Pam Farey, Anne Dietrich, Anne Bray and Jeannette Vervaart. The site the toilet block was built on was formerly occupied by 'Criterion House', a building used in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a shop and also a hospital. The two-storey building is the original Grenville Shire Hall, built in the mid 1860s. The fence outside it is being used to post notices. Two large pine trees are between the fence and the building. The smaller shop next to the hall has a verandah supported by round timber posts, and signs across the front of the verandah read "Tailor" and "W. Angus". Two men engaged in conversation with each other are standing to the left under the verandah. This building was formerly the Methodist Church in Linton, built in 1913 to replace an earlier timber building, and used as a church until 1977. The rectangular white damask tablecloth was owned by Mrs Murrell (Lily Murrell, née Young, wife of William Murrell) who ran the Linton newsagency during the 1930s and 1940s. Mrs Murrell asked people who came into the newsagency to sign and date the cloth, and later she embroidered the names and dates in various coloured thread. Traditionally such ‘signature cloths’ were used as a fundraiser for charity purposes and date back to the 1890s at least. They were at their height of popularity during World War I and the inter-war period, often embroidered in red or blue. The Linton tablecloth has a number of signatures and dates, some not embroidered, the dates ranging from 1931 to 1945. Stone mileposts dating from the 1870s are found on the Glenelg Highway. Stone and iron mileposts are now a rarity, and have remanining markers have become a tourist attaction in many smaller towns with remnant markers. The stone mileposts on the Glenelg Highway are listed on the Victorian Heritage Reigister as being significant to the State of Victoria. Their primary purpose is to inform the travelling public of distances and directions to various destinations. The cornet was owned and used by W H Nicholls, a member of the Linton Brass Band, most likely in the 1890s or early 1900s. The cornet was donated to Linton & District Historical Society in 2017 by Robyn Nicholls, of Blackburn. It is understood in the Nicholls family that Robyn's late husband, Graeme Nicholls, inherited the cornet from his great-grandfather, William Henry Nicholls (1845-1902). However it is also possible that the cornet was owned and played by Graeme's grandfather, also named William Henry Nicholls (1880-1943).Brass cornet with mouthpieces, in original dark wooden case which has red fabric lining. Instrument is approximately 30cm in length, has a 12 cm bell and three valves. A small portable sheet-music holder is also in the carrying case. The manufacturer's name "Gautrot Brevete, Paris" is imprinted on the bell, along with the inscription "Exposition Universelle de Paris, 1889, Medaille d'Or". This garage was on the site of the Ball family's blacksmith's workshop. In 2017 parts of the building are still on the site, although in a very dilapidated condition.Photograph copied from original of a petrol station/mechanic's workshop.
