Thomas Mardling Wise ran a drapery store, "Ellington House", in Sussex Street, Linton, from the 1860s until the early 1900s. The Wise family lived on a small holding on Carngham Road, Linton. Thomas Jones, the son of Matthew Jones and Ann Jones, nee Parker, was born at Banongill Station near Skipton in 1859. He died at Linton in 1942. George Garnsworthy Bennett was a son of William Garnsworthy Bennett and Susan Bennett née Williams. He was born at Linton in 1867. He married Ada Bersey in 1896. Around the time of his marriage he established his own butchery business in Sussex Street, Linton. G. The Morgan family ran a store in Sussex Street from 1894, known as the Linton Economic Store. It was run between c.1906 and 1930 by J.H. (John Hutchison) Morgan, between 1930 and 1956 by R.H. (Robert Harold) Morgan, and between 1956 and 1964 by S.E. (Selwyn Eric) Morgan. Alwyn Roberts worked at the store from about 1946. See information in Charles & Alwyn Roberts family file. This photograph was owned by George Preston, the apprentice printing worker shown third from the left in the photograph. The photograph was given to the Society by his son Ronald Preston. The printing works site was in Sussex Street, Linton, understood to have been next to the Railway Hotel. The photograph is believed to have been taken around 1895 or 1896, when George Preston was thirteen. Elizabeth Jane Blamire, b. 1865 and Rary Emelia Isabel Blamire, b. 1863, were two of the eight children of William Blamire and Mary Ann Blamire (née Green). The Blamire family lived at Linton, where William worked as a blacksmith and painter. The subject of this photograph was unidentified for many years, but in 2014 the photograph was identified as probably of Mary Broadstock Tame, the aunt of John Burnham Tame. (J. B. Tame was the son of Mary's brother Charles Tame). Mary Broadstock Tame was the wife of Joseph Shepherd, who ran Shepherd's Family Grocery & Ironmongery store in Sussex Street, Linton. Receipt issued by Kitty Sandow, the daughter of John and Ruby Sandow, who had from the late 1920s run a mixed business in Sussex Street, Linton. (Current address 88 Sussex Street.) Kitty worked in and later ran her parents' shop. After she married Reg Jennings in 1946, the shop became known as 'Jennings' Shop' or 'Jennings' Milk Bar'. 'Mrs W. Found in the cellar of the former Barr's drapery shop, Sussex Street, Linton, which at one time had a doctor's consulting room. Bob Albert (who found them) assumed they were something to do with the medical practice. He gave the box of mosquito drops to Joan and Alan Giles. Information in newspaper advertising (found via Trove) shows the drops were marketed in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia between about 1915 and 1927. The address on the packaging suggests these particular bottles were manufactured after 1918.Twelve green boxes labelled 'Marne's Mosquito Drops', stored in a strong cardboard box bearing a green label, also reading 'Marne's Mosquito Drops'. The girls are Elizabeth Lock and Nanette Hunt. The photograph was taken in the garden at the former Donaldson family home in Sussex Street, Linton. Unfortunately, the house is not shown - the view is across Sussex Street to a cottage on the other side of the road. Elizabeth Lock's aunt and uncle, Vera and James Johnson, bought the house from the Donaldson family in the mid 1930s. Elizabeth Lock, b.1934, often stayed for extended periods with her aunt and uncle and briefly attended school at Linton in 1941. A small wooden church was built in in 1858-59 in Sussex Street, Linton (near where Shepherd's store was located). Sunday School meetings began there in November 1859. By 1860 the church building was considered too small. The land was sold to Mr. Brewer, and the building was removed to a site in Grantley Street and enlarged. Shortly after this, it was decided to build a new church, a wooden structure which was opened in 1861. This building was still in use at the time of the Methodist Church Jubilee in 1910, however around 1905 a fund was established to build a new brick church (pictured), which was opened in 1913. Annie Meredith Nicholls, a daughter of William Henry Nicholls (1845-1902) and Annie Nicholls (nee Smith, 1847-1900) of Linton, worked for Mr. George Smith, who ran a stationery and newsagency shop at what is now 88 Sussex Street, Linton. When George Smith died in 1900, he left most of his estate, including the shop, to Annie Nicholls, then aged nineteen. Annie continued to run the shop and in 1903 she married George Brown, who was working at Mt Bute station at the time. They had seven children - Laurie, Victor, Ivy, Noelene, Annie, Ethel and Verna. In the early 1920s Annie became too unwell to run the shop, which was taken over by Walter and Katie Bonthorn and then by Ruby Sandow. Two shops are visible further along the street, and part of a sign for a butcher's shop is visible in the lower left corner of the photograph. The photograph has been mounted on a map of Australia which has been cut from very thick cardboard. A border made of small green squares is around the photograph, and underneath the photograph are the words "Greetings from Linton" enclosed by a scroll. The edge of the map has been painted green. A picture of a Koala has been cut from card or paper and painted silver and then been glued to the cardboard map to the right of the photograph. The souvenir is believed to have been made by R.E. Hyatt.A home-made souvenir of Linton, which consists of a colour photograph taken in Sussex Street of the Linton Post Office and Bank of New South Wales buildings, with an early model Ford car parked in the street. The photograph has been mounted on a square of cardboard, and a border made of small green squares drawn or printed around it. "Linton" is inscribed within the border underneath the photograph. The square of cardboard with the photograph on it has in turn been mounted on a square of very thick cardboard, which has had its edges varnished. "My Home Town" and "R.E. This image was copied in 2020 from a facebook post by Marcia Penny, a descendant of Linton's Craine family. Information with the image on facebook said the original photograph had been in a McIntyre family album (the McIntyre family was connected to the Craine family by marriage).Digital copy of an original photograph and its mounting card, which shows a coach drawn by two horses. William Todd is understood to have been born about 1855 at Linton's Diggings to parents William (Snr) and Sarah, née Thompson. William Todd married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bennett in 1882. After the death of his father-in-law William Garnsworthy Bennett in 1903, members of the Todd family took over the butcher's shop on the corner of Sussex and Clyde Streets in Linton, but it is not known if William Todd had a direct interest in the shop, as his occupation in electoral rolls form 1903 onwards is stated as "carpenter". He was Secretary of the Linton Horticultural Society for many years, bandmaster of the Linton Brass Band, and was an active member of the Linton Church of England congregation. William and Elizabeth Todd celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1932. They had nine children.
