The Hedge, aka Thomas Knee's house. Thomas Samuel Knee (born c. 1881in Lilydale) married Jane Maggs c. 1912, Thomas Samuel Knee's father Thomas Knee (married to Sarah Hardidge and who it appears was also an orchardist in Yarra Road) was rated for the land as vacant land at the turn of the century (c. 1900) Thomas Samuel Knee rated as owner of vacant land (CA14B of over 20 acres1911-12 and as a house 1912-13, next year CA 14C added making a total of 39 acres. It appears that Thomas Samuel Knee and his wife Jane lived at the property until 1949 when they moved to Montrose. In 1949 it was purchased by Hubert Victor (Vic) Eggleton after they migrated from Banstead in Surrey England. They had four boys Peter (who did a lot of the farming with Gladys), Brian, Michael and Roger. It was mixed farming: lemons, cherries, eggs, chickens and Gladys bred Spaniel dogs too. They had 2 dairy cows and a draft horse. The farm was larger then and was subdivided at a later date. The big dam was added too. the painting of the house was painted by a cousin of the Lusks. Ownership: Thomas Samuel Knee 1912-1949, Eggletons, 1949 - c.1953, then Timms, c. 1953 - early 1970s then Lusks early 1970s to c. 2012. The Lusks built a new house and after that the old house had various tenants.

Jenny Watson is a long-time employee of the Port of Echuca known for her extensive knowledge of the Murray River and associated stories of past and present. Born in Rhodesia, Jenny escaped internal conflict and came to Australia at 19 years old. A great horsewoman and also a natural on vessels, when she came to Echuca in the 1980s, she soon trained for her Masters Certificate with the encouragement of skippers such as Kevin Hutchinson and Alan Bartch. She skippered the P.S. Canberra and P.S. Emmylou for many years. Jenny worked at the Tourism Centre before the Discovery Centre was built. Her knowledge helped her become an integral Tour Guide at the Port of Echuca and her sensitivity to the unseen world, led her to develop the special Port After Dark Tour revealing some of the spirits and energy that runs unseen through the Port from past events. This remains a very popular tour with visitors and locals. Jenny currently comes in as a specialist volunteer talking to visitors about every subject to do with Port. Jenny is a living legend. Tropical Flesh (ii) draws upon the slippery experience of identity to explore family connection. There are threads of dislocation and the thickness of tropical time. Silicone casts of tropical jackfruits are fused with a cast of the artists’s aunt’s foot, the cast of which was made upon her permanent return to Thailand. Together, the visibly-aged foot and a fruit that decays quite vividly, evokes a sense of time passing. The work is informed by the experience of witnessing members of family age in slices of time, across vast distances. The artist asks us to consider the work as a memento mori.

A speech and slideshow given by Councillor Joseph Haweil to a Legacy Comradeship Luncheon on 27 June 2023. Cr Haweil is Mayor of Hume City and a member of the Assyrian community in Melbourne. He spoke about the actions of Stanley Savige during World War 1 that lead to him saving over 50,000 Assyrian refugees in Persia. This item is from the private collection of George Shirling of Red Onion, Falls Creek. George Shirling arrived in Falls Creek in 1962. He engaged Phil Nowell to build the original Koki Alpine Lodge which opened in 1965 with 14 beds. George operated the lodge with Michael “Baldy” Blackwell as manager. He also graduated in sport psychology in 1981 and was invited to become team psychologist for the Australian Winter Olympic team which went to Albertville, France, in 1992. He later owned the Red Onion Chalet. George credited the success of Koki to “Baldy” Blackwell. “Baldy” and Phil Nowell started the Trackers Mountain Lodge in partnership during the 1980s. In 1971 George sold Koki Lodge to Sigi Doerr. In 2024 the renamed Koki Alpine resort remains a highly popular destination in Falls Creek. George Shirling passed away on 27th February 2023. He had remained actively involved in Falls Creek and was generous with his time and knowledge, always an amazing supporter of The Falls Creek Museum and Falls Creek Village.This item is significant because it is a portrait of George Shirling, a significant pioneer of Falls Creek and the ski industry in Australia.A framed colour photo of George Shirling with his Golden Labrador at the dam. A programme for the State Memorial Service held on 10 November 2023 for Ron Barassi at the MCG. It lists the order of service and some facts on Ron's life. Australian football legend, former ‘Legacy Boy’ and Ambassador, Ronald Dale Barassi, AM passed away at the age of 87 on 6 September.  Ron was forever grateful for Legacy’s support to him and his mother Elza. Throughout his life, as a Legacy Ambassador, Ron generously used his well-respected status and networks to promote the important work of Legacy.   Ron came into Legacy’s care as a child when his father Ronald James Barassi was killed in action at Tobruk in 1941. Ron’s father was the first VFL footballer killed in World War II. Only 5 years old at the time, Ron later rose to be a star footballer for the Melbourne Football club like his father. Legacy assisted with his education and health expenses and supported him in attending youth camps and other recreational activities.   A State Memorial Service for Ron was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 10. Staff from Legacy assisted at the service by handing out programmes and encouraging attendees to sign condolence books which have since been presented to the Barassi family.  Legacy was honoured by the Barassi family’s request, in lieu of flowers, that members of the public make a donation to Legacy to assist families of veterans in need, a cause very dear to Ron’s heart.
