The Axis Kettle was developed through the EcoRedesign project funded by the Federal Government and based at RMIT in the 1980s and 1990s. The project involved the expertise of significant Victorian designers such as Paul Taylor, Gerry Mussett, Liam Fennessy and Michael Grima, as well as prominent sustainability experts such as academics John Gertsakis, Chris Ryan and Alan Pears. Axis changed the way kettles were used, guiding users to save resources through their behaviour. It is regarded globally by academics from prominent design institutions such as Loughborough and Delft as one of the first successful eco-design projects. The Storey Dance Orchestra was formed in the 1920s by Arthur Storey, playing voilin & banjo, sister Rita-saxaphone,Jean and brothers Bob and Ben. Later, their mother, also Jean, an accomplished pianist and supporter of the orchestra, filled the pianist role after Jean left home to further her career. The car in the photograph was paid for with orchestra earnings. Their music involvement enabled a large family to sustain the farm during the 1920s and 1930s. World-War-Two intervened, this saw the Storey Orchestra disperse, Bob joined Jean in Melbourne, where they continued their musical careers. Ben joined the war effort, leaving Arthur on the farm. Two photos about the donation of a special bottle of King's Ale to Legacy that was to be auctioned to raise money for Legacy Week in 1960. A newspaper clipping about the event explains the story. In 1902 a special brew of ale was made by King Edward VII. In 1960 a bottle of the ale turned up in Melbourne and was donated to Legacy by Mr A W Taylor of 'Old Tin Shed' a motor accessories firm. Original Painting in Bendigo Art Gallery PAINTING WON'T HANG IN MESS BENDIGO intends to keep its big oil painting, "Gentlemen - the Queen," hanging in the Shamrock Hotel in Pall Mall. i The painting is on loan to the hotel from the Bendigo Art Gallery. And It's badly wanted at the officers' mess of the Royal Australian Artillery, 3rd Div., in Batman av., Melbourne. A formal application for It was made, In writing, to the Art Gallery by Brigadier W. Hall, commanding offlfncer. But Art Gallery members at their meeting yesterday said "No." Lending it or giving it away would "create a dan- gerous precedent for the Gallery," they decided. . "Any anyway," said Mr. W. Little, the Gallery's curator, "Brig. Hall has erred in thinking the men depicted in the painting are artillerymen. "They're offlfflcers In the Duke of Connaught's Light Infantry." But in Melbourne last night Brigadier Hall, keenly disappointed, said: VI have been told the picture was painted in the Royal Artil- lery mess at Woolwich, In England.
