Tatura Male Choir formed in 1944 competed annually at Ballarat. No earlier recordings known off.10 inch 78 rpm vinyl record featuring the Tatura Mail Choir performing at the Ballarat Musical Eisteddfod in 1962. They came 2nd. Enclosed in brown paper cover. This trophy was initiated at T.LC. in 1956, donated by Mr H.S. (Tib) Reilly to attract prominent district & Melbourne players to the annual tournament on Australia Day weekend. The conditions were that any player winning the event 3 times would hold the trophy permanently and Mr Reilly undertook to provide a replacement. Mrs Val Constable (nee Huxtable) won the trophy outright for the first time in 1962 and she has donated it to the museum to honour Mr Reilly's contribution to the Tatura community. Mr Reilly was a prominent businessman, J.P. and very active in promoting the development of Tatura. Winners from 1956-1962: 1956 Mrs N. Nethersole, 1957 Miss P. Radford, 1958 Miss V. Mr Chifley's last major public speech, made at the annual conference of the NSW Branch of the Australian Labor Party on the day before his passing away. Chifley spoke at the State Banquet at Parliament House, Canberra, on Tuesday 12 June 1951, and in the House of Representatives on the afternoon of the day that he died (13 June 1951), but those speeches were more formal. Ben Chifley was the sixteenth Prime Minister of Australia and a former railway engine driver. He was treasurer in the Curtin government and became Prime Minister after Curtain's death. He lost the 1949 and 1951 federal elections. The 1951 loss was due to his opposing Menzies' proposal to ban the Communist Party. The document was donated by Mr John Mildren, former federal member for Ballarat and former lecturer at Ballarat College of Advanced Education.Rare. Significant to the history of the Labor Party and to political commentary in Australia. The Chaser Annual was published for 9 years from 2000 to 2009. It collates best cartoons and articles from the Chaser newspaper which was a fortnightly satirical publication. The newspaper has become a quarterly publication from 2015.
