The older daughter of Dr James Blair Donaldson Snr, Roberta Donaldson was born at Linton in 1891. She studied medicine at the University of Melbourne before working at the Melbourne Children's Hospital. She then spent three years practising in India. She was in private medical practice at Surrey Hills (Melbourne) from around 1920 to 1970. Frances Dorothea Mary Port, born in England in 1890, married Dr James Blair Donaldson (the younger) in 1916 in England, where he was serving with the British armed forces during World War I. At the end of the war, she came to Australia. The Donaldsons lived at Linton with their two sons, Frank (born in England in 1917) and George (born 1920), before they moved to Skipton in 1926.Enlarged black and white copy of original photograph which has been mounted on card. As well as being an activist, Tilly Aston was also a published author and wrote several books during her lifetime. In this scanned image, from The Weekly Times newspaper, she holds her hand to her face and wears a flounced blouse with a multi-strand pearl choker and a heavy bangle which appears from underneath a decorated cuff. Her hair is swept up in a top knot and a large black bow, turned sideways, rests upon her left side. Priscilla Nelson, born 1869, grew up at Happy Valley and married James Nelson (the second son of Robert Simeon Nelson and Mary Ann Dawe) in 1890. Priscilla and James had six children - James, Theophilus, Norman, Pearl, Mary and Violet. James established a carpentry/undertaking business on "Church Hill" in Linton (near the Presbyterian Church), but after his brother John Nelson died in 1900, he inherited the Nelson premises in Sussex Street which had been built by his father, and he moved his business and family to this location. This photograph shows Priscilla Nelson with her grandson Theo (son of Theophilus Nelson). The photograph is understood to have been taken in 1939. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The violin is an example of a stringed musical instrument used from the fifteenth century for entertainment and pleasure in homes and public performances. Over time, the design has been developed and refined. Violin, Bow and Case. The violin has no markings, and it only has two strings. The wooden case is painted black and has a metal handle. It is lined with green felt and patterned paper. The bow is wooden and fully stringed, with a mother pearl decoration on the frog and a black cloth tape pad.
