Work on paper - Men's Official Occasions Uniform Design Drawings, Wendy Powitt, c. 1992
A set of laminated A3 sketchbook pages depicting designs for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Men's Official Occasions Uniform designed by Wendy Powitt. On the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games donor Doug Pleasance wrote- The 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games saw an evolutionary change in designer selection. A Declaration of Interest Form was communicated to over forty potential designers. The task and especially tight timelines that were involved deterred many aspirants, however, there remained eight designers with the potential we were seeking. These eight designers were paid $3,000 per submission and the winning designer, Wendy Powitt, was paid $15,000. For the first time the judging panel included two athletes, one male swimmer and one female basketballer, their influence was pivotal. The Official Uniform was used for both travel and official functions. This included a tailored blazer and trouser/skirt set (all water repellent) by Fletcher Jones in pure olive green faille fabric by Foster Valley, a cotton PE formal shirt by Pelaco, pure wool knitwear by Spangaro, a printed wool tie by TD Noone, wool nylon socks by Holeproof and footwear by Hush Puppy.8117 .1 - A laminated A3 sketchbook page depicting a design for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Men's Official Occasions Uniform. Photograph, Humberstone's Royal Hotel Surrey Hills
Humberstone's Royal Hotel was a substantial 2-storey building on the corner of Canterbury and Broughton Road. The hotel was built in 1887 to replace an older hotel (Delany's Hotel) built further east in 1856. It was de-licensed in 1921 after a "Local Option Poll" and became Tower House Day & Boarding School under Miss Marion Beetson from 1922 until 1932. It was demolished in 1932. There were 25 students in the 1920's, mostly boarders from outside Surrey Hills and all primary school students. The school room was detached from the main building and there was 6 acres of playing area. The old bar was the business office, the girls' dormitory the old dining room. Marion Beetson was the teacher, Mary Beetson managed the household. Their father was an Indian Army officer. The younger children wore a school blazer with the T.H.C. badge on the pocket. Miss Susan Kelsall visited to give piano lessons and Prof. Kelsall taught French. Miss Marion Beetson died in Castlemaine on 8 February 1952. Textile - Object, Melbourne University Student Union patch, 1930-35
Hugh Jeffrey attended the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University, graduating in 1940. This cloth patch would have formed the breast pocket of Mr Jeffrey's university blazer. The Melbourne University blazer is traditionally black with blue stripes, and organisations such as the Boat Club, Cricket Club or, in this case, the Student Union, would have their particular logo or badge embroidered on the pocket. The logo on this patch is a version of the University of Melbourne coat of arms - with the angel Victory embroidered in white on a black background, offering her laurel wreath. Unlike the official coat-of-arms, the stars of the Southern Cross are not included, nor is the Latin motto. 1 coloured cloth path with embroideryhugh jeffrey, university of melbourne -

Textile - Artefact : Textile, St Ann's College Blazer, C1980's
St Ann's college history dates back to 1872 with the arrival in Warrnambool of eight Sisters Of Mercy from Ireland. They purchased Wyton House, which was the former home of Mr William Ardlie, soon after their arrival, and the first school was opened that same year. It was initially known as St Mary's and had both day and boarding scholars. When the chapel was built in 1888, the name was changed to St Ann's. It operated as both primary and secondary education until 1974 and in 1991 it amalgamated with nearby St Joseph's CBC and became co-educational operating as Emmanuel College. At that time the uniform changed from the familiar green with yellow to navy blue and maroon. The motto translate as Work conquers all. This blazer belonged to one of the last students to attend both St Ann's College and Emmanuel College and was Vice Captain of Emmanuel College in Year 12. IAn item which would have many local memories and connections with large numbers of children attending the school in close to 150 years of education in Warrnambool.Bottle green woollen school blazer with three green buttons and three pockets .
