Letter describing the old stone church of St. Kilian. From D H Hogan, 67 Chapel St to a Mr Harry (dated 19/9/1959). Writer of the letter was a junior pupil at the boy's School in 1887 and attended mass at the old stone church. These are reproductions of four Maruni60 chairs (item F032) The originals are Japanese kit form self-assemble furniture (1961) and were quite fragile and broke several times and needed repair. The originals were purchased from Anderson's furniture store in Chapel St Prahran, the store's back room was considered the coolest furniture showroom in Melbourne. Patricia Boyd had the cushions reupholstered to this purple fabric. John Danks & Son Pty Ltd began as a plumbing business in 1859, established by brothers John and Samuel. It occupied the 391-403 Bourke Street, Melbourne, for 100 years. The business quickly grew to include factories in Melbourne and Sydney which manufactured and supplied a variety of plumbing and engineering products such as brassware, pumps, windmills and bells. In 1889, John Danks & Son Limited was formed Following John Danks' death in 1902, his son Aaron, later Sir Aaron led the company. Aaron's son Fred, became Chairman and Managing Director upon his father's death in 1928. A letter from the Danks firm can be found in scrapbboks 1.
