Early in World War I local women's groups in Australia began working to provide provide tobacco, cakes, puddings, condensed milk, sugar, biscuits, newspapers and other 'luxury' items to supplement the Australian soldier's army rations. These fund-raising bodies were amalgamated in 1916 to form a national body, The Australian Comforts Fund (ACF), which undertook to provide 'comforts' to all Australians abroad. Sales of this book raised funds for The Australian Comforts Fund.A thin book with a brown fabric cover. On the cover is a black line drawing of a koala in a tree. It contains a summary of the work done by the Australian Comforts Funds at the front, Anzac and Mudros, at the camps in Egypt with a summary of gifts and statement of accounts.The book sold for 3/- or 15 P.T. in aid of the A.C.F. This clock was placed in what was called the "Writing Room" of the Soldiers Memorial Institute when it was opened in 1921. This stationery is printed in red ink with a ruled writing area above which is a letterhead. The letterhead features the names of the charitable organisations involved in producing and distributing the stationery. The reverse side of the paper has ruled lines printed vertically in blue ink. The paper is approximately 8 x 5 inches in size and is a buff colour.The paper has printed letterhead with the "AUSTRALIAN COMFORTS FUND", "VICTORIAN DIVISION", the ACF insignia and the note "With Which is Affiliated". This badge was produced by the Returned Services league War Comforts Fund in World War Two to provide comforts for the soldiers serving abroad. The appeal was held annually throughout the war. This is an example of posters with a patriotic theme the purpose of which was to raise money for goods for service personal overseas, during WW2. "Tin-hat" badges were sold for 1 and 2 shillings and 1pound. The 'tin-hat' appeal was conducted from 4 Sept - 17 Sept in 1943. Organised by the Returned Soldiers League. Women at home were encouraged to knit "comforts" for servicemen. In WW2 this was not as successful as during WW1 because a) women had a wider range of wartime jobs that limited their time for knitting and b.) Knitting wool was rationed.
