During World War One Tim Tovell of the No. 4 Squadron RAAF befriended a French orphan known as Henri or Digger. The child became an unofficial mascot, was given a custom made AIF uniform, and at the end of the war was smuggled back to Australia. As an adult Henri was killed in a car accident and is buried at Fawkner Cemetery, Victoria. Members of the No 4 Squadron subscribed for a memorial stone.Five black and white image. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion and deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. The Post War Planning Report was prepared by Leslie M. Perrott & Partners: (City Planning Consultants) and according to the report, it was submitted to the Council of the Municipality of Caulfield through its Special Committee on Post War Planning. The report has no evident date however the introduction text suggests that it was prepared before the end of World War II. The report is the only known extant copy and therefore considered rare. Bound report with grey cover titled: "Report to the Post War Planning Committee Caulfield City Council". Interior pages include x83 pages typed text printed on blue print paper; x3 pages copies of black and white photographs; 10 blueprint plans. 86 pages consistent in size with book cover, 10 x blueprint plans varying dimensions, folded and bound within the report. Printed on white sticker on spine of book "LH 994. 51" and on first page inside "CAULFIELD LIBRARY SERVICE REFERENCE BOOK" and on the verso of this page, another stamp with CAULFIELD LIBRARY SERVICE and LH REF 12/7 hand written in black ink and a 14 digit reference number below this. On the back of the last plan in the book, there is a blue stamp with "REFERENCE BOOK TO BE USED IN THE LIBRARY ONLY". Below this is a black and white barcode with a black line through it and a round, blue sticker beside it.

Frances Dorothea Mary Port, born in England in 1890, married Dr James Blair Donaldson (the younger) in 1916 in England, where he was serving with the British armed forces during World War I. At the end of the war, she came to Australia. The Donaldsons lived at Linton with their two sons, Frank (born in England in 1917) and George (born 1920), before they moved to Skipton in 1926.Enlarged black and white copy of original photograph which has been mounted on card. The Oakey Army Aviation Centre is a training facility formed in October 1943 at Oakey, Queensland. It was built with the purpose of providing a maintenance facility: the units would erect, repair and insect aircrafts and engines. At the end of the war in 1945, the depot was used to store surplus aircraft. In early 1946, the RAAF Station Oakey was disbanded and categorised ‘to be retained but not maintained’. Since then, the RAAF Station Oakey facilities have been used few times for some minor activities. Although there are no information relating to the owner or usage of the cup; it holds historic significance for its direct link with the Australian Army Aviation Centre in Oakey and its involvement in World War II; and more generally for its link to the Australian Army.Large white cup with a handle; decorated with a blue ink symbol (displaying a crown and below it, a bird handling two swords) and blue ink inscriptions (from the Army Aviation Centre Oakey). 2Lt Andrew Crawford, a Tatura farmer, served six years with 7th and 15th Light Horse regiments prior to enlisting in 8th Light Horse AIF in WWI. He served at Gallipoli where he was wounded at The Nek, 7 August 1915, and later in Palestine. He reached the rank of Major by the end of the war. Professor Ernest Edgar Kurth of the University of Tasmania, invented a faster, simpler and cleaner way to produce charcoal on a continuous basis during the second world war. The charcoal was used to produce a combustible gas in motor cars, as a substitute for petrol, which was heavily rationed. The first batch of charcoal was produced in February 1942 and continued until the end of the war. Wood from stringybark trees was cut into lengths and fed into a kiln which converted it into charcoal. The Kiln is located on Beenak Road, 7km north of Gembrook. It has great historical significance, particularly as an alternative supplier of fuel during the second world war. It is a State Registered facility, managed by the Friends of Kirth Kiln and the park is managed by Parks Victoria Green soft covered book of 150 pages, with a photo of 2 men and a boy out in the bush with 3 fires burning.Contains a Prelude about Ernest Edgar Kurth written by Alfred Klink (2013) and a Foreward by John Sullivan (Heritage Officer of Parks Victoria). This dress was donated by Judith McShane, the daughter of Ena Heazlewood, the maker of the dress. It was the First Communion dress worn by the daughter, Judith about 1952. Mary Josephine (Ena) Todd was born in Warrnambool in 1920. She was a hairdresser at Josephine’s Salon in Warrnambool and in 1942 married a Warrnambool man, Jack Heazlewood, a stoker on the H.M.A.S Sydney at the time. They later lived in Sydney. The material for this First Communion dress was brought back from Japan by Jack Heazlewood, on naval duties there at the end of World War Two.This dress is of interest as one made by a former Warrnambool resident and as an example of a dress made 70 years ago for a special event in a child’s life (First Communion Day) This is a hand-sewn child’s dress made of embroidered silk. The dress has a Peter Pan collar made of satin with a fluted satin band around the waist. The long sleeves are set in and the top has three press studs to close the opening at the front. The material is gathered at the waist and hemmed at the bottom. Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day or VE Day) was on May 8, 1945, the date when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany. In 1947, Louis Jackson joined the Citizen Forces (CMF) and served as a captain in the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. This uniform is a well provenanced, representative example of WWII clothing as worn by an officer of an armoured regiment. Upon mechanisation in December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was re-titled 20th Motor Regiment (Victorian Mounted Rifles). It was equipped with Bren Gun Carriers and deployed to airfield defence in Northern Territory. In 1943, the Regiment was deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea, where it conducted patrols along the coast and up rivers using barges and canoes. Returning to Australia in April 1945, the Regiment was redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion then disbanded several months later at the end of the war. The town of Vire is on a rocky promontory above the Vire River, situated in the south-west of the Calvados department of Lower Normandy, about half way between Caen (north-east of Vire) and Mont-Saint-Michel (to the south-west). Since 2016 the town has been part of the commune called Vire-Normandie. The town suffered quite heavily during bombardments at the end of the Second World War, and much reconstruction and renovation took place in the decade that followed the end of the war. HMAS Sydney was a Majestic-class light aircraft carrier operated by the Royal Australian Navy. She was built for the Royal Navy and was launched as HMS Terrible in 1944, but was not completed before the end of World War II. The carrier was sold to Australia in 1947, completed, and commissioned into the RAN as Sydney in 1948. She completed two tours of duty in Korean waters. She was relieved in January 1952, after taking the Australian contingent to the U.K. for the Coronation, returning home on 16 N0vember 1952. she finished in Korean waters on 4 May 1953.HMAS Sydney was paid off into reserve in January 1958 and was recommissioned in 1962 as a troop transport. She completed more than 20 trips to Vietnam and was known by the nickname of 'Vung Tau Ferry'. HMAS Sydneys last trip to Vietnam was completed on 12 March 1972 and was paid off for disposal on 12 November 1973. She was sold for breaking up in Korea on 30 October 1975 and left Sydney in tow on 23 December 1975.
