The Chancellor is the head of the university and presides over meetings of Council. The Chancellor is also an ex officio member of all other bodies of the University. As well as being the traditional colour of embellishment on a Chancellor's gown, gold also provides a tangible link between the new university and its Ballarat ancestry. Academic gowns distinguish between the university's senior office holders, The design of the Chancellor's gown at the University of Ballarat is based on an Oxford and Cambridge tradition for university Chancellors' robes. It is made after the style of an English Queen's Counsel gown, with appropriate traditional adornment (chevrons) on the sleeves and edges. The decorative braiding is in gold oak-leaf braid. The velvet trencher with gold tassel is the traditional headwear for a Chancellor. Black and white 16 page booklet with a primarily black cover. Armitstead's woodyard was on the site later occupied by the Chandler Room of the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre. Stephen Godfrey Armitstead started the woodyard in 1921, taking over from Long's woodyard. Taken over by Stephen's son, Leo Godfrey, it closed in the 1970s. After Leo's death it was managed by Hec Whitworth. The Armitstead family lived at 79 Croydon Road. 1931 electoral roll: Catherine Isobella, Ellen Florence, Leo Godfrey (woodworker), Stephen Godfrey (wood merchant) and William Ginchrist (joiner) at this address. Leo later lived at 75 Croydon Road. Geoffrey Armitstead, grandson of Stephen, visited the site in 2002 whilst in Melbourne from Brisbane. He recalled that during his summer school holidays that he delivered ice to household icechests. His cousin Marcia Davis, daughter of Ellen Armitstead, accompanied him and provided the family photos for copying and related her knowledge of the family history. The weighbridge and scales were moved in 2023 from their original position when the forecourt of the Neighbourhood Centre was upgraded by Council. Sexes are similar, although the female can be separated at close range by its red-brown eye (darker brown in the male). Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are found in a variety of timbered habitats and are common around human settlements. The birds stay in the same area all year round. William H. Corbould was an alumni of the Ballarat School of Mines. He was born in Ballarat, and his father conducted a tailor's business. William was educated at Ballarat College and obtained a Certificate of Assaying and Metallurgy in 1883, and Chemistry in 1884. Three letters between Geoffrey Blainey and Dick Richards (Principal of the Ballarat School of Mines) regarding information on William H. Corbould for a book Geoffrey Blainey was commissioned to write on Mount Isa Mines. Four pages by Geoffrey Blainey are handwritten. One page by Dick Richards is typed. The resulting book "Mines in the Spinifex: The Story of Mount Isa Mines" was published in 1960. The letter includes information on W.H. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH Australia enrolled its first PhD candidate in 1995 and during 1996 focused on attracting increasing numbers of students. In 1996, three candidates were enrolled through VIOSH Australia.They were John Culvenor, Geoffrey Dell and Thomas Mitchell. All had Prof Dennis Else as their supervisor. Previously, Geoffrey Dell was in Intake 7, 1985, Occupational Hazard Management. Geoffrey Dell's topic was "Airline Baggage Handler Back Injuries - Causes and Prevention." "The aim of this study is to investigate the work practises and operational systems used by baggage handlers in a range of airlines, worldwide. Where possible the investigation will include an epidemiological study of baggage handler back injury occurrence in those airlines. The information gathered will provide an understanding of back injury causation modes, and will focus attention on the specific tasks for which engineering solutions should be sought. Engineering solutions identified will be subject to controlled trial, to confirm their validity." This led to the construction of a full scale plywood baggage compartment model and a partnership with Ballarat University's School of Human Movement and Sports Science. Three different loading systems were tested. Qantas baggage handlers travelled to Ballarat University to fill the human frame of the investigation. The photographs show this aspect of the research. In 1997, Geoffrey Dell was awarded the Eric Wigglesworth Prize.
