Professor Helen Bartlett was Vic-Chancellor of Federation University Ballarat from 2017 to 2020. Prior to this she was Pro Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of Monash University Malaysia from 2013 to 2017, and Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University’s Gippsland Campus from 2008 to 2012. She is the current Chair of the Regional Universities Network and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sunshine Coast. Professor Helen Bartlett is an experienced leader and passionate advocate for regional education. Professor Bartlett led a period of transformation at Federation University Australia, enhancing its profile as a multi-campus institution, its innovative approach to regional higher education and focus on responding to the needs of its communities. The Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education was established by an Order-in-Council in September 1968. The Council of the Institute included members of the Gippsland community who are prominent in local government, industry, commerce, education and the professions, the Director of the Institute, and representatives of the academic staff, students, and graduates. On its establishment, the institute assumed responsibility for the diploma courses previously offered by the Yallourn Technical College which had commenced diploma teaching in 1929. Initially, all the Institute's teaching was conducted in the diploma building of the Yallourn Technical College. In 1972 the Institute transferred part of its operations to the first of its permanent buildings on a large campus in rural surrounds near the township of Churchill, ten kilometres south of MOrwell and one hundred and sixty kilometres east of Melbourne. The Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education was opened on 20 November 1976 by the Honourable Lindsay Thompson, Deputy Premier of Victoria and Minister of Education; and Senator J.L. Carrick, Minister for Education in the Commonwealth Government. Keith Hamilton attended Ballarat Teachers' College, a predecessor institution of the University of Ballarat, graduating in 1955. Keith Graeme Hamilton was born on 09 May 1936 in Ballarat, Victoria. He is the former Australian Labor Party member for Morwell in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Hamilton served as the Member for Morwell from October 1988 until being succeeded by fellow Australian Labor Party member Brendan Jenkins, in November 2002. Hamilton served in the Bracks Government's first term as Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
