The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989. The book "The First of its Kind" was published in 2015. Printed in Bendigo by "Bendigo Modern Press". Letter has reminisces of starting at NDSN Lister House in 1962.Three-page handwritten letter and photocopy of fifteen graduate nurses for the PTS School 56, written by Nanayaui Nambiar from Canada, replying and coming to NDSN Lister House reunion. Associate Professor Catherine Laffey has been described as a changemaker and educationalist. In 1993 she was the ALP candidate for Ballarat Province, and stood as a candidate for the Australian Labor Party in the Legislative Council Province of Ballarat at the Victorian state election, which was held on 30 March 1996. On 18 March 1999 University Council approved the appointment of Ms Catherine Laffey to the Human Research Ethics Committee as a member co-opted from the TAFE Sector. In 2005 she was elected to University Council as the TAFE Representative, and around 2007 the Univesity of Ballarat Consultative Committee. Catherine Laffey was appointed Head of the School of Human Services in 2009. A number of photographs of the presentation of certificates to graduates of the University of Ballarat Volunteer Tutor Program.
