A few years after the amalgamation of Williamstown and Altona into the City of Hobsons Bay City Council he transferred from the Gardens to other sites within the City. He returned to the Gardens in 2006. Very little is known about this ship and it disappeared from records after the return voyage to England. Skippered by Master Readthorn Hobson, this ship weighed 375 tons, was 75 ft long and had a beam of 22ft. She was built at Sunderland in England in 1785, only two years before the trip to Australia Model of the "Borrowdale" first fleet

Victoria's first quarantine station was established at Hobson's Bay in 1840. However with the influx of immigrants during the gold rush, a new station was needed in Port Phillip Bay. In 1852 the "Ticonderago" arrived with 300 passengers ill with scarlet fever and typhus. They were landed at Point Nepean, Portsea, which which was known as the "Sanitary Station" until the 1880's when it's name changed to the Quarantine Station. Thomas' pharmacy operated from Fairy Street in Warrnambool, initially from 90 fairy Street on the corner of Fairy and Koroit Streets then later moving to 140 Fairy Street on the corner of Fairy and Lava Streets. Mrs W L Hobson is noted as the pharmacist in the 1970's. Olive oil in the 1970's was used primarily to moisten and cleanse dry skin.It has also been used as a laxative. James Hobson Aveling (1828-1898) invented this type of forceps. They are made from steel with an ebony handle. Obstetrical forceps gripped a baby’s head to help delivery during difficult childbirths. Aveling thought a curved handle rather than a straight one would improve grip and make the forceps easier to insert into the body. However, his idea did not work well and the forceps were not widely used. Aveling also promoted the use of chloroform during childbirth.Set of Aveling style forceps, consisting of two plated metal blades with ebony handles. James Duncan was tried for his involvement in the Nelson Robbery in 1852. The robbery of the barque 'Nelson' is one of the most notorious crimes of the 1850s. Duncan, along with James Morgan, John James, Stephen Fox and John Roberts , robbed the ship of over cash and gold nuggets at gun point while she was anchored at Hobsons Bay, off Melbourne. One of the victims of the robbery identified Duncan to police by his voice. Duncan was sentenced by the notorious Justice Redmond Barry to 15 years hard labour on the roads. Altona North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 10 km south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Hobsons Bay local government area. Altona North Police Station opened on 7 October 1979 as a new twenty-four police station and was the District Headquarters of Altona District. It comprised a C.I.B. and a Community Policing Squad. Lined up in the foreground along the side of the Dummy are approx 20 tram crew and other staff, most in assorted uniforms with unbuttoned jackets. This photograph was taken at the "old station" at Corringle near Orbost. It was a popular picnic spot. Late in 1857 Mr Thomas T. Stirling took over Corringle Run ("Corringle" means "shallow water"). Mr Stirling and his family came from the wester district - Winchelsea. He settled at the Old Station. A few people were employed at the Orbost Stationb and there was settlement on the Orbost flats, Mr T. T. Stirling held the land from Lake Tyrers to Bemm River as a cattle run. About 1888 he became Secretary of the new Tambo Shire. Found in garden shed of Mr Harry Barratt [WWI Gallipoli] and donated by his grandson. In 1877 Swan island was designed to defend shipping in Port Phillip and Hobson's Bays. The scheme, involving massive expenditure, comprised a forward defence system of forts at Port Phillip heads dominated by Fort Queenscliff and South Channel Fort (artificial island), and a network of coastal batteries. Some development of fortification had occurred in the 1850s, but it was the impetus of the Jervois-Scratchley reports which led to major work being undertaken in the 1880s. The overall defence plan involved a combination of guns, mines (known as electric torpedo) and ships to defend the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. Swan Island Fort would be used to protect the minefields in the harbour, Naval observation countermine charge 500lbs wet G.C Standard mine from 1877 to 1905 when charge was removed and mines used as buoys.
