The man on the LHS of the photograph is Nikos Kandiliotis (Liarokapis), the other unknown. Nick and his brothers, Clementine, Jim (Dimitri) and Orpheus were some of the many young Ithacan men who migrated to Melbourne in the 1920s and 1930s. Their parents, Chrisostomi and Stathis, followed them after World War 2.A sepia mounted studio photograph in post card format of two smartly dressed young men. Photograph of Gerasimos and Marigo Sikiotis (Scotis) and their young daughter Loula taken in the village of Stavros, Ithaca. They arrived in Australia in 1923 when Loula was aged 2 and settled in Newcastle. Loula married Nicholas Moraitis (Morris) in Newcastle. The family then all moved to Melbourne where they ran a milk bar at 162 Toorak Road South Yarra. Loula and Nicholas had two children, Jim and Andrianna. Photograph, Erigoni (Nitsa) Vlassopoulou-Kyriakakis, c1945
This is a photograph of Erigoni (Nitsa) Kyriakakis nee Vlassopoulos. It was sent to her father, Dimitrios Vlassopoulos (Kopela) who had migrated to Australia in the early 1920s when she was `only a young child. Dimitrios settled in the Mildura area and owned the Golden Key cafe in Red Cliffs, Victoria. Erigoni did not see her father again until she migrated to Australia in 1952 together with her husband Kyriakos and two children George and Eugenia. Their son Demetri (Jim) was born in Red Cliffs. Kyriako and Erigoni took over the running of the Golden Key Cafe. They eventually retired back in Greece, living in Athens. It was not uncommon for the fathers of many children born in Ithaca in the early 20th century to never see their children again or to be reunited with them after decades. Inscription on the back of the photograph identifies the subject as Sophie May Hogan, age 5, and says that the original photograph was taken in April 1912, when Sophie was a flowergirl at her Aunt Mary's wedding in Ballarat. Sophie was born in Linton in 1906, a daughter of James (Jim) Hogan and Sarah Hogan née Walker. She married Alec Wheeler in 1941. Sophie moved to Skipton with her parents when she was six but maintained contact with her Linton grandparents and cousins throughout her life. Sophie died in 2006. She was the mother of LDHS president Jill Wheeler.Black and white copy of original photograph which shows a young girl wearing a long-sleeve dress which has pintucks, smocking, and lace trim. She has two large ribbons in her hair.
