The 13th Light Horse ...The 13th Light Horse Regiment considered themselves to be the 'Devil's Own' owing to their number 13 designation, consequently when in Egypt in 1915 they commissioned local metal workers to produce unofficial hat and lapel badges. The 13th Light Horse Regiment (AIF) was raised at Broadmeadows Victoria in March 1915. Following service at Gallipoli the regiment was broken up with squadrons going to France as Divisional Cavalry Squadrons of 2nd, 4th and 5th Divisions. The regiment was raised as 13th Light Horse (Gippsland), a Citizen Forces unit. following WWI, and trained as a cavalry regiment till August 1940, when it converted from horse to mechanised initially as 13th Motor Regiment then 13th Armoured Regiment. It trained in Victoria and Queensland but as the Japanese threat to the mainland declined, it was disbanded in October 1943 with men going to other units. B051.1, B051.2 - Lapel badge or tie pin with Uniting Church... - Lapel badge or tie pin with Uniting Church in Australia logo ...The logo of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) shows the cross of Jesus Christ, in its light and love, standing over a darkened world — redeeming it through grace and truth. By that cross people are bound to Christ and each other. The Holy Spirit, symbolised by the dove with the wings of flame, empowers and guides us to be witnesses to Jesus Christ. The wide U at the bottom points to the fact that we are uniting; as a semicircle it also reminds us that the renewing of both church and world are as yet incomplete.B051.1, B051.2 - Lapel badge or tie pin with Uniting Church in Australia logo at the centre. -

Badge - Rats of Tobruk Association, 1945
... A small metal lapel badge bearing the logo of the Rats... of Tobruk Tobruk Rats of Tobruk Association A small metal lapel ...This badge was given to members of the Rats of Tobruk Association. 14,000 Australians were in Tobruk during the siege. On return to Australia the veterans looked to maintain the ties created amongst those who were in Tobruk during the siege and to ensure their needs were supported. In 1944, the Rats of Tobruk Association, NSW was established. This was followed by the establishment of the Victorian Branch on 2nd October 1945. Other branches and sub-branches were established across Australia and a Federal Council was established in 1946. With the passing of the survivors of Tobruk, most branches have been wound up with the exception of the Victorian branch. Since 2012 the Rats of Tobruk Association Inc. has opened up affiliate membership to descendants and relatives of the original "Rats" in order to preserve their legacy. This item is of significance as it indicates membership of the Rats of Tobruk Association and the role it has played in supporting the veterans' needs and carrying on their legacy. It is part of a collection of items owned by Arthur Lock, a member of the 2/23rd Battalion, an all-volunteer Second Australian Imperial Force which served as part of the garrison during the Siege of Tobruk, then at El Alamein, New Guinea and Borneo. It has particular local significance as the battalion was know as "Albury's Own" because a large majority of the battalion's initial intake of volunteers came from the Albury–Wodonga region.
