The 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, USA were the tenth edition of the Summer Paralympics.
It was the first Paralympic Games where International Sports Federation for Persons with an Intellectual Disability athletes were given full medal status.
This badge includes a flame motif representing the phoenix, which was a symbol of this edition of the Paralympics. The official mascot for the Games was Blaze, a phoenix, who has become a symbol of disability sports in the United States.
